Cyndi Lauper abriu as portas do universo musical para as mulheres. Entre outros feitos, ela foi a primeira mulher a receber 5 indicações ao Grammy em um só ano. Depois dela outras mulheres receberam até mais indicações por ano mas antes nunca outra mulher tinha recebido tantas indicações de uma só vez.
Em 26 de fevereiro de 1985, referente ao ano de 1984, Cyndi concorreu ao Álbum do Ano, por She's So Unusual; Gravação do Ano, por Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; Canção do Ano, por Time After Time; Melhor Performance Vocal Pop Feminina, por Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; e Melhor Novo Artista.
Só o fato de ser indicado ao Grammy já é uma grande vitória, um sonho para todo artista do mundo da música. No entanto, das 5 indicações, Cyndi acabou levando para casa somente o Grammy de Melhor Novo Artista, o que foi uma tremenda injustiça, porque 1984 foi, incontestavelmente, o ano dela. Foram nada menos do que 5 singles nas paradas musicais de quase todo o planeta e milhões de discos vendidos.
Mas é como a própria Cyndi disse "Minhas roupas e cabelos coloridos falavam mais alto que a minha música".
Se pudessem voltar no tempo, com certeza, os reponsáveis pela premiação entregariam a ela os 5 Grammys, merecidamente, afinal o tempo provou o quanto sua arte é maravilhosa, sobrevivendo à decadas, tendo suas músicas se tornado verdadeiros clássicos atemporais.
Naquela noite, além de receber o Grammy de Melhor Novo Artista, Cyndi cantou a belíssima Time After Time.

On February 26, 1985, referring to the year 1984, Cyndi competed for the Album of the Year, for She's So Unusual; Record of the Year, by Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; Song of the Year, by Time After Time; Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, by Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; and Best New Artist.
Just being nominated for a Grammy is a huge victory, a dream for every artist in the music world. However, of the 5 nominations, Cyndi ended up taking home only the Grammy for Best New Artist, which was a tremendous injustice, because 1984 was undoubtedly her year. There were no less than 5 singles on the music charts of almost the entire planet and millions of records sold.
But it is like Cyndi herself said "My clothes and colored hair spoke louder than my music".
If they could go back in time, for sure, those responsible for the awards would give her the 5 Grammys, deservedly, after all, time proved how wonderful her art is, surviving decades, having her songs become true timeless classics.
That night, in addition to receiving the Grammy for Best New Artist, Cyndi sang the beautiful Time After Time.
