my mom works in a huge food retail company as an average cashier and just before the work day ends and the store closes, the workers there were allowed to buy food that the customers did not buy and thus would otherwise go to waste because they have produced too much that day (e.g. bread, salads, cakes, fruits) for half of the regular price. But recently they find that too much food is being bought by the workers for that low price so that they want to stop this. I find it terrible, because rather than throwing them into the garbage, they could land in our stomach just as they were meant to be. Also, this company does not even donate the leftover food products to poor people or organizations. They rather throw it away than to see people eating all this food, because all they want is $$$$. Sooo sick!

Excellent video. It's a complicated issue and it deserves to be thought about complexly, instead of resorting to easy one-liners like "Down with Monsanto" or "stop eating meat". I would seriously do everything I can to get a handle on it within my lifetime.

Well done! This is such a tragedy but consumers have the key to stopping food waste. Interestingly, if we stop ordering the "super-sized" drinks and meals, we'll force restaurants and food-makers to listen and change what they sell. Consumers have more control than most realize.

Subsides are given to oil companies but not to distribute food to starving children. The governments priorities...

We must stop wasting food. We must be able to provide food to everyone. We can give the SNAP recipients a bag of fresh produce instead of the junk that is being subsidized by the government.

I eat a plant based, whole food, low fat, high carb diet. So this does not apply to me. I rarely eat out and rarely have to throw out food.

I hate to waste food, so whatever me and my family don't eat typically goes out to feed my dogs instead. The trashcan ain't gonna eat that spoiled food anyway...
