Introduction to Mathematics

Everyone hates math, right? Wrong! I like math. Mathematicians like math, presumably. Physicists like math, usually. People who hate math just don't understand it. But like that weird ethnic food you're scared of trying, or that odd kid in class that doesn't say much, if you come to understand something it's not so scary. In fact, if we can learn enough about math, we will come to love it, because there is so much we can do with it. Watch this series to supplement your math classes, or just to learn enough math that you can become friends. It starts out super easy so don't be afraid! Okay, let's go!

I used to think I hated math, but it turns out, I actually love math, and I just hated how my teachers treated me for being slower than the other students.

I cant emphasise how much this series helped me with my exams, going from a c student to a A+ in my mathematic exams. Thank you prof dave.

I think most people don't like math because it makes you think a lot and use your brain, but I now think I should force my brain to think more, I may not need math to use in daily life, but one thing is for sure, it can improve my critical thinking or memory or analysis of anything, so these are enough benefits for me and I am sure along the way I will find other reasons as well

I'm late to learn by 40 years. I'm 45 and suddenly got interested into math and learning it with the help of scholars like you here. Thanks

I hate math for the last 20 years but all of a sudden I realized that why should I fear to learn it. As I have only one life and I want to explore it. So decided to learn but after searching too many channels, @Professor Dave's Explanation made me to subscribe his channel. Hope I get support from the Admin and Community. Thank you.

Hello, I am coming to you from the future. I am up to part 70 of this course. It's a very good course and I recommend it. Dave is very clear and concise in his explanations. Literally no wasted words, which is great. Nice manageable length of each part. Great graphics too. Get yourself an old-school exercise book and take good notes as you go, as you'll occasionally want to refer back to an old lesson, and you'll need to draw a lot of stuff, not just type. It gets progressively harder up to around part 30 and then it's a bit tough for about 15 parts. If you can last until part 47, it turns to geometry and suddenly gets MUCH easier again, and doesn't really get hard again until part 70. One drawback is that there are no workings shown for the answers to the comprehension questions, so if you get it wrong and nobody has provided the workings in the comments, there's nothing you can do, and it's quite de-motivating. There are a couple of errors and inconsistencies, particularly part 38, so you should read the top comments before spending ages getting frustrated with the comprehension questions.

People like you restore my lost hope in humanity bit by bit.
The energy that went into this (edit:) playlist (/edit) with the main purpose of helping others without expecting anything in return...

Math is the study of questions that have definite answers. A fantastic definition for math. I've never heard any teacher defined math as general.

I just googled "basic math for adults" for my young adult daughter that's always struggled with math. She needs this refresher before starting some college science classes. It was cool that the first item was with someone I've watched tear flat earthers apart in several videos. I'll have to finish this video before sending to her to be sure that you don't make fun of people that are bad of math too though.

I'm 22, dropped out after sophomore year, and got my HiSET, and eventually forgot everything. I hated school. Math especially. This stuff is really already bringing me to be interested in math for like, the first time in my life, and then after wanting to learn more, I feel like I actually have a chance, rather than going to a community college hah. Thanks Professor.

Prof Dave, this series is incredible. I'm in the process of returning to school, and I needed a bunch math through calculus for prerequisites into my desired program. My highest prior math class was algebra. Crunched for time (somewhat), I knew I could test into at least trig just by using this math series of yours. Well guess what? I tested right into calculus. Cannot tell you how pumped I am and how awesome your channel is! I bought a Prof Dave Explains T-shirt and wear it all the time, haha. Love that shirt! Thank you so much. Keep crushing it.

I’m about to start college as a dual degree physics and engineering major but my math skills have always been somewhat lacking. I’ve been wanting to expand my knowledge in math, but could never find the best starting place, resources, and learning method until now. This video has me extremely exited to watch your playlist and learn. You’re doing a real service to humanity by inspiring and teaching people. Thank you!

PhD in Chemistry, Taught at Uni during postdoc, 12 years in R&D (Industry), now having success with my teaching business in Physics (High School level). my weird study path made me bypass maths (I basically have a solid high school level, and picked up what I needed on the way).
But the thing is that I have an intellectual hobby, quantum mechanics. And have been so frustrated not being able to fully join the fun, because of maths.
I found your course here on youtube today (from the video on operators), realised which video I could start up from (It will be Video 137), and the fun can actually begin !
Thank you so much for the incredible hard work providing that knowledge in a comprehensible way to the world! You are amazing!
