I’m so sorry that happened to you. My dad, big on prevention, always says to turn off the main water before leaving on vacations. I say this only to help someone in the future. 🙏

I would put your shower faucet inside the shower. Just on the other side of the door from where you have it now. I always adjust my temperature as I shower. It would be awful to have to reach out of the door.

Have you considered putting the shower handle inside the shower on the opposite wall from the shower head? You can easily turn it on without getting wet and also easily adjust the water temperature and turn it off from inside the shower. Both of those are inconvenient if the handle is outside the shower and behind the door.

Great video. I’ve been married to an HONEST GC for 48 years. Uncovering hidden issues during a project was sage advice. What a great design for such a small, two-story space! ❤️

Two quick thoughts, Rebecca, as I looked at your plan. A shelf above the cooking element is a potential fire hazard. Also, wet feet from the shower, then using the winding staircase…..put treads on the steps? A foot dryer at floor level in the bath? Some kind of solution to avoid slipping and falling on the winding, slick stairs as guests return to the bedroom from the shower.

Such valuable info on hiring a contractor and planning a project. People aren’t educated, often think change orders shouldn’t be any problem or add cost. So very important Rebecca! Thank you.

I like the way you can take the bull by the horns. As you said, contractors are great at coming and starting demo but then are difficult to contact getting the work completed, It is such a challenge to get a bathroom refurbished here in my area. Good luck!

Honestly if you could do an hour or two live chat just talking through EVERYTHING with how to work with a contractor, that would be so amazing! My anxiety is off the charts with things like this, and I want every detail handled so things go smoothly whenever possible.

I love the finishes you chose. But I think that kitchenette needs a microwave. Maybe put a minibar on the second level? I always get so thirsty when I’m in my 2nd level craft room and having a cold drink right there in the room is on my Christmas wish list this year.

Rebecca, I love your channel. You are a wonderful teacher - so generous with your experience and wisdom, even for people like me who are renters. I'm a renter by choice because I've never wanted to make a commitment to live in one place for my entire life. Thank you for sharing your brilliance with us.

My friend came home from a trip to a waterfall in her house stemming from a burst pipe upstairs. The water was literally pouring down the stairs landing. Ever since, we turn our water off at the main when we leave for a trip.

I think you should rethink the hung toilet. I considered it fir my bath reno and if anything goes wrong with toilet you ate ripping walls out to get to the problem.

This was so timely and helpful! I’m buying an old house and I have a tiny budget for a few upgrades before move in. This is helpful for my meeting with my contractor.

Your design for your guest area looks awesome! So happy to see that your contractor, Julie, appreciates how much attention to detail you provided in your request for a quote. It looks like your and Julie's personalities mesh well. I'm thinking you'll become fast friends and will work on other projects together. I'm smiling. I enjoy all of your videos (and I'm a Design Sessions member) but it's always extra good when you have a video of "our" home in Tulsa. (I know others feel the same.) Thank you for another great video. :o) Oh, and to those who may not know, Rebecca has a really good video with helpful tips about how to select a contractor.

Glad to see you working projects again! So how do you adjust the temp of the shower if the faucet handle is outside the shower? I am assuming you will you make an opening in the glass. If you are making an opening to adjust the temp of the water, why not put the handle on the inside of the shower and reach through the opening to turn it on?

What will keep the shower door from hitting the faucet? ❤

First of all, I love, love your decorating style.
Regarding installing the shower faucet outside of the shower, I think you will regret it, if you need to adjust temperature or whatever then you have to open shower door! Have you considered a sliding glass shower door?
Looking forward to completion I’m sure it will be awesome as always.
