That "Oooooh Giiirrrlll" is absolutely legendary! Everyone knows it. Even ppl that dont kno the song or who sings it recognizes that "oh girl" when they hear it. It has been used in so many shows n movies thru the years that everyones heard it at least once and nobody forgets it. So beautiful. They dont make music like they used to thats for sure.

I graduated from high school in May 1972. By August, this song had become my mantra because I had fallen hard for a girl. Navigating the emotions and the actions & words of love, commitment, and a sustained relationship made a hot mess of me and I found the commiserating spirit of this song to be a good place to hide out and salve my wounded heart.

Me a 34 year old man all I can say is this great cruising in the car music. Mellow music that makes you think. Yes i like heavy metal, classic metal, 90's rock and rap, also early 00's. But the 50's and 60's jams hold a place in my heart.

We had the best music in the 1960s and 1970s.

Thinking back to 1977 Spandau, West Berlin. I loved to listen to AFN (American Forces Network) radio station in the late evening, where this song was often played. Strange how music, at least for me, can be a Tardis, allowing me/us to travel and revisit places and people as we remember them and so washing away all that that stands between..John Barrie wrote: God gave us memory so that we can have Christmas in July.

This song is 46 years old and even though I was just a young teenager when it came out, I still know all the words to it.

1972 was a great year to be alive if you weren't in Vietnam. This song was so powerful it spoke to a 16 year old kid who hadn't yet experienced the world but understood loneliness and isolation of loss.

Thirteen years old when this song hit the radio waves, in 1972. I would have entering high school. Miss those days, so long ago! Miss my folks. And my sisters.

Happy 50th anniversary to this great song! It was released right around this time in 1972(May 2022 as I post my comment.) Here’s to another 50 years for this song!

Loved this girl so much man broke my heart. kind and caring and way more reasonable than me and that is rare for the few girls I've been with. wavey hair Light skin big thighs squinty eyes freckles and dimples. Girl of my dreams. Her hateful parents didn't like me though and her dad beat me up and told me not to contact her again and they warned to disown her if she ever contacts me again. We didn't wanna leave each other she chose her family over me in the end and I wanted to hate her so bad for that but really I respect it because family comes first and she wasn't ready to say goodbye to her family and come live with me for good.
