I was “Frank Reed’s” best friend, I knew him before he started singing with the Chi- lites”. He was part off my family, he was at my house almost everyday. In fact he lived 3 blocks from where I lived. I talked to him a week before he died, he was I’ll then, but I had no ideal that he was sick enough to die. I called him to ask him if he would take a trip with me to sing 🎵 at my m”mother’s funeral? But he told me he was too sick to travel 🧳. When I returned home from my mother’s funeral, I called him to let him know that I was back, & I got the “shock” off my life when his friend told me that he died a day before I made it back home 🏠. I “cried” so hard, because he was more than a “friend”, he was my brother. He was at. My house 🏠 more than he was at his own house 🏠. I had known “Frank more than 30 years. I miss & love ❤️ him sooo much. I knew his whole family. I went to my “mother’s funeral & had to go to his funeral a week later. He sung at his own “funeral”. What I mean by that is they played his music 🎵 that he had “recorded”. That was one ☝🏿 “sad funeral”. I took pictures standing beside his “casket”. I still have those picture’s. He died on the 26 off “February”, & my mother died on “February 14”. “I will never 👎🏿 forget you my dear brother “Frank Reed”, you will forever be in my heart 💜.👩🏾😭😭🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿💔💔💔💔🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

Unfortunately Eugene Record Passed a year or two ago. He was one of the best song writers ever. He also had a classical music backgroung thats evident in his music. Also the Chi-Lites are from Chi-Town. These guys was one of the groups that got me in trouble with girls back then.

Seen Squirrel sing lead several times in the later years, was always amazed by how simular him and Eugene sounded, must be that Chicago-accented voice.

On this day in 1972 {March 18th} the Chi-Lites performed "Oh! Girl" on the syndicated TV program 'Soul Train'...
One month later on April 8th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on May 27th it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100...
And on June 3rd it also reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart...
The song's composer and lead singer, Eugene Record, passed away on July 22nd, 2005 at age 64

Eugene had left the group to record solo for Warner Brothers.He returned for a while, then later permanently retired. Original Chi-Lites bass singer Creadel "Red" Jones also left the group due to health reasons. Both are now deceased, as is original member Robert "Squirrel" Lester (on the left on this video). Only Marshall Thompson (center) is left from the original lineup.
