Pilots flying a Boeing 737 with Ethiopian Airlines fell asleep during the flight and were at cruising altitude as they flew over the airport. Today, I explore the incident and focus on fatigue within the aviation industry and its risks. Help support

I really enjoyed watching that aircraft assembly.

ITA, the new "national" carrier of Italy, had the same issue with both pilot and co-pilot falling asleep over France not a long ago.

In the airline I fly for we have to call the flight deck every 20 minutes to check up on them. If they're taking their control rest, then the non-resting pilot has to contact us. Failure to do so would result in us contacting them and waking them up. I don't know if this procedure is in place in Ethiopian

The fatigue issue is very real for cabin crews. However, the duty days are fixed for flight crews.

I would like to hear about their crew rest procedures and are they followed in accordance with ICAO.

Love the Boeing airplane construction going on while you speak.

Why emphasize the fact that it's a 737? The type/model of plane makes absolutely no difference.

Okey this is wierd. How is that possibole in the first place?? Great Video Dan. Can not wait for the next one.

There is also possibility of loss of communication or reduction in cockpit pressure

What did they expect, to have pilots in these times? It costs 100.000€ to 150.000€ only to get out of the training school with the licences. Being a pilot is and has been for some years a privilave not just a job and I can't see how that is going to change any time soon.

It's fortunate that this plane didn't crash, but at least, to me, this is still kind of a wake-up call for improving fatigue even though pilot fatigue may be rare because the next one for all you know may not be lucky enough to save the plane.

At least the weren’t discussing there there schedule

Qualified pilots are in short supply these days, so their jobs are probably safe. Thankfully no one was hurt or killed.

Had there been an accident, the initial reaction would have been a blame on the aircraft, which happens to be a 737.
Having said that, airlines are really struggling to keep up with the explosive surge in travel demand. US airlines, despite the widespread complaints, are doing the right thing by cancelling many routes as well as reducing the frequency of even some of their most popular routes, and indicator of the shortage in staffing, and also hopefully taking care to listen to their crews.

OMG😱. It's ITA Airways thing again but this Ethiopian is quite same and yes fatigue is well known on some airline accident like Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 back in 2010

I saw a school bus driver fall sound asleep with her radio blasting. She crushed a car like a beer can and never woke up. People have to start taping the late show. You found the Boeing show "We Build Them Quick".
