This video outlines some of the fake sounds that are used in "Windows Startup & Shutdown Sounds" videos.

This video already has a copyright claim for the NT 5.0 startup. Hooray! (Not really)

What sounds do you guys like the most? 🤔
Do you guys think I should make more Windows content? Let me know! 😄

Correction: The fake 2000 Beta 3 sounds don't come from the OS - they actually come from ThemeWorld.
Thanks to Candy The Pog Cat also for telling me.

Fun fact: if we modify the windows 2000 beta 3 startup sound as kinda low pitched it will sound like a part of the Windows 5.0 startup sound

Before people were thinking that NT 5.0’s shutdown sound was the Windows 2000 Build 1946 startup sound, they were thinking it was the NT 5.0 Startup Sound but in reverse.

There actually were 3 projects under the name Cougar, but I only know 2.
The first Cougar was used in the vmm32.vxd kernel of Windows 3.1, second used in Windows Small Business Server 2008 as its codename and I have no idea about the 3rd one.

Windows XP has two sound themes:Default and Samsung
The Samsung theme was composed in 2003 for Windows Vista Beta 1 and 2(shutdown only)
The Vista Beta 2 startup is unknown

The beta versions of Windows Millennium Edition was claimed to have the windows 2000 startup and shutdown sounds while they actually used the Windows 98 startup and shutdown sounds.

You did a good job of arranging fake sounds and correct sounds.

I actually use the fake Longhorn sounds for two of my XP virtual machines because they sound THAT cool!

3:40 Vista (Longhorn Post-Reset) Beta 2 builds only use XP startup and shutdown sounds as default
Most Vista RC1, RC2 and Pre-RTM builds use XP startup sound and Vista RTM logoff sound, not the final Vista shutdown sound which you claimed above
the only mistake you made I mentioned above, your video is 95% correct

great video :)) although i'm pretty sure the fake 2000 Beta 3 sounds did not even come from that OS, but from a theme from the website ThemeWorld...

Actually, the Windows NT 4.0 startup sound is also used as the startup sound of Windows NT 5.0 up until build 1671, when build 1671 started using the Windows NT 5.0 startup sound.

Fake Windows Whistler startup sound actually consisted from reversed Windows 98 (builds 1687 to 2222B) shutdown sound, Level Up music from the Spring Weekend game from the Microsoft Entertainment Pack: The Puzzle Collection, and reversed Windows 2000 (builds 1983 to 2000.3) startup sound.

I prefer the real ones and thanks for creating this video

2000 Beta 3 (build 1946) fake sounds originated from ThemeWorld, according to some OS youtubers. And mostly, the fake shutdown sound from Windows NT Workstation 5.0 originates from Windows 2000 Beta 3 itself!

(1:49) Both the fake Codename Whistler Beta 1 start-up and shutdown sounds were from a fan-made Windows 98 desktop theme called "Whistler 9x", if i recall correctly.
(2:45) From what I could tell watching a different video, there was a utility pre-loaded on mid 2000s Samsung laptops that included Windows XP and that utility was called "Samsung Theme". The fake Codename Longhorn sounds come from the sound scheme included with the theme that the utility would activate when the user opens and activates the theme.

I don't think any vista beta 2 builds used the final shutdown. The ones that vista beta 2 builds use for the shutdown are xp shutdown or vista logoff and that's it.

Vista Beta 2 still used the XP shutdown sound.

Correction:vista beta 2 does not use the vista/7 shutdown start but the log off

XP build 2481 still used 2000 sounds, but it has its sounds in the media folder, you can tweak the "change system sounds" settings to make it use these sounds.
