You guys are flipping through the seed packs like kids with baseball cards. It’s great!

Kevin and Jacques give off an older brother, younger brother dynamic 😊
Kevin: what are you doing here? I didn't invite you
Jacques: I'm here to sow seeds with you 🌱

Don’t hurt on kohlrabi! It’s a great healthy substitute for potatoes (lower glycemic index, more fiber and nutrients). We eat the rounded stem portion and leaves roasted, in stir fry, raw in salads, and our favorite- fritters. It is much easier to grow than broccoli (slower to bolt) and is rarely woody. We grow spring and fall crops of Terek and Kossak (giant) varieties in Zone 8a. When the apocalypse comes, it’s our subsistence crop!

An elderly family friend once told my husband (when he was a kid) to loosely roll up newspaper and lay it in the garden where earwigs were a problem, leave it overnight, and throw it out in the early morning. The earwigs crawl in to shelter from the sun, so they get tossed out with the paper. It seemed to work last year, just bring a garbage bag with you to the paper, so they don't jump out. I loved listening to you two, but now I have to go start some winter seedlings. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love how you started laughing at Jacques’ entry while looking down at your seeds. You couldn’t even hold it together! Sincere comedy!

I’m not gonna lie… I did dishes and folded laundry while I watched this because I’m in zone 7b, and well it’s a bit too late to sow seeds (tho
I just direct sowed some greens…). Either way, it was such a joy to hang out with you!

Endive and escarole are the same species, just different cultivars. They get more bitter in summer, and less in cold weather, but I love the bitterness. If you slice escarole finely and season with plenty of salt, lime and olive oil it is amazingly bitter in a good way. Even though I don’t eat cheese anymore, it is amazing under the cheese in pizza, precisely because the bitterness interacts with the salty fatty cheese.
