I always dreaded my dad rewinding or fast forwarding (in stop and in play mode alike) his old adapters of his home movies from our vacations. I hated that mechanical screatching tika tika tick sound. It's because VHS-C adapters are essentially just like another VCR within a VCR, right?

You probably heard this a million times but you are the main expert on youtube for this tyoe of stuff....I am digitising my old vhs tapes and a lot are mouldy. They play and the picture is fine but no audio. Are they no beyond repair? It's not the VCR as some play fine with audio but has the mould completely killed the audio on the ones that are quite mouldy? By the way, is that an English accent I can hear? Cheers!

1:48 question do you have that C compact adapter on jet fast forward? I would think not because jet fast forward or rewind would just destroy the thing. Wrong or right?

My tapes look to be in great condition, but the same thing happens as in this video... they all crash the VCR after about 5 seconds. When I try the rewinding/fast forwarding strategy after banging them on the table a little, sometimes the tape gets yanked out inside my VCR. It gets folded and crinkled inside the VHSC when I manually wind them back up, so I'm afraid I'm destroying them. If I fast-forward without stopping first, I can see all the footage on there and it looks like it should be fine, yet it crashes the VCR after 5 seconds when I play normally. I don't know what to do anymore 😭

Or it could just be the spiral? The spiral of the reels on VHS-C tapes themselves look far more mechanical. Is that why you hear the ticka ticka more? Ticka ticka on rewinding and fast forwarding of regular VHSes is pleasant, kind of like the old reels on movies and TV show productions but more digital and modern but nevertheless its essentially the video equivilent of film. Same sound but faster.
