Hi, I’m Philip Klein and this is part of our frequently asked insurance questions series. We get a lot of calls asking if my insurance will cover a rental car when I’m having car trouble. The short answer to this question is "No" but here’s a bit more information as to why. Car insurance is not designed to protect against maintenance related issues. Insurance typically covers things that happen suddenly and accidentally. The rental car portion of car insurance (which is typically an optional coverage for an added charge) pays for the cost of a rental car while your car is disabled due to a covered loss such as a car accident or theft.

Maintenance issues are typically covered by warranties and there are service providers that will provide a loaner vehicle in some cases as a courtesy to customers. If you have further questions, contact us at PKIG.com
