"Upgrade" from what? A 2x9? For what kind of riding? I'm glad you like it, but you haven't fully covered the the "why".
I've never been one to ride on really technical trails or jumps, so I have never had a use for 1x. In fact, I've moved back to a 3x to have enough range and granularity between gears for a casual "all-road" style bike.

Doesn't fit modern Bottom brackets onlt Square ended 90s type but still in use on the lower end bike's today

What is your cassette? How many gears? I have a 7 speed free wheel with a great derailleur. I worry a 1x7 won’t be enough but I spend 99% of my time on the 2nd cog

These are great fornthe price but they wear out fast compared to raceface or other brands
