The rental market in New York City is crazy. Everyone knows it! However, we love NYC SO much that we decided to join the Manhattan apartment hunt to see if we can find a place that's perfect for us. We laid out our budget, our must-haves, and our nice-to-haves before scheduling unit tours. Some things we're looking for? A nice kitchen, laundry in-unit, space for our cat Micia, outdoor space, good lighting, a doorman building, and more. The budget? $6,000 per month USD. We sort of feel like this is our very own Pasini version of "House Hunters". Tell us which apartment YOU think we should have chosen in the comments!

Thank you for all of your love and support! Don't forget to subscribe and turn on the bell so you never miss a new video! You can also follow us on our other socials below! Ciao for now! -Jessi and Alessio

As a New York native, I've lived everywhere in NYC. My honest advice is not to live in the city (Manhattan). The prices are insane. Everything is overpriced. You can easily find a much more affordable place that's even bigger and better in any other borough. Believe me, you'll still have all the luxury and availability of the city with a much better budget. Definitely try Brooklyn or Queens. You won't be sorry 😀
Happy hunting! Love your videos!

If you can give up the idea of living in Manhattan itself, you could definitely find more affordable rents in the other boroughs. Since you love Arthur Ave so much perhaps an apartment in that area. Or parts of Queens and/or Brooklyn that are very close to Manhattan would work for you. Esp. since you can get some great views of the Manhattan skyline from those places.

Grew up in NY and worked in NYC for over 20 years before leaving. Although the food and entertainment are amazing, you could buy an Italian villa for less than what you will be paying for rent in NYC. Best to you both!

As someone who lived in NY for 5 years, and lived everywhere from tiny studios to luxury buildings i will say... you will RARELY use the extravagant building amenities (pool, meeting room, cinema, etc) ... I have found that it's not worth the extra money for them, you can typically find all those things within walking distance from your apartment. That would be my little tip!!! Good luck on the hunt <3

WOW! I’m still in shock over the cost of decent rental properties in NYC. I think y’all have made a very smart financial decision. The money you save yearly will set you up for some absolutely beautiful vacations to Italy!!

I love how you put Micia's needs right up there with your own 😻

Those prices are just crazy. 1 month in New York for an apartment is the same as a whole year for my mortgage on a 3 bedroom house in the midwest 😂

I am sorry, but how in the world can you think that looking out on buildings everywhere is breathtaking. I have a beautiful view of gorgeous mountains including Mt. Shasta....that's breathtaking!

I feel like you guys should look for an in Brooklyn or Queens as it's still close enough to Manhattan without Manhattan's prices. Also, you guys should try temporary living. There's a commercial I keep seeing on YouTube that says you can move as often as you want to many cities all over the world, and you move into fully furnished apartments every time you move, you stay as long as you want in one place then move to the next. A month in NYC, three in San Francisco, 2 weeks in San Diego, 2 months in Chicago, then back home to Nashville, or you could find an apartment in one of the cities if you fall in love with the city.

I'm so happy you guys are considering moving to NYC. The happiness you've both shown on your trip to NYC just warms my heart. I think you'd both be so happy there!

If your budget is $6000 a month maximum, congratulations 👏 you guys are doing well in life. All the best in 2023.

Omg. $6000 a month. That would be all the money we make a month and I’m a nurse!!
Our mortgage is $1200 and we have a custom built home on 3 acres.

Live where you can afford, live in Nashville, vacation in NYC for 2 weeks every year. Eat the good Italian food while you are visiting. Rent a better unit with a full size range to cook in though.
But Nashville is expensive as well. At least you can grow your own food in Nashville. Save money with a backyard garden. Go to Italy on vacation every third year, or fifth year. Live your best life and be happy. Looking out for your cat's best interest made me very happy, thank you. My black cat is sitting here watching with me, she thought that was very nice too. 👵❤️🐈‍⬛

I think you should consider other boroughs. We recently rented out our Brooklyn apartment for $5, 200. It’s a pet friendly building with a full time doorman, outdoor space, and gym. 2 bed/2 bath with a large kitchen, large balcony, and washer-dryer in unit. Doesn’t have the view of the first one, but faces a quiet tree lined street with a view of Manhattan in the distance. Modern building and modern apartment in a good neighborhood. 2 blocks away from the train station and only 20-30 minutes away from Manhattan. There are a lot of nice apartments in your budget.

You guys should definitely look at living in Queens or Brooklyn. You’d save a ton on rent and be a short train ride from the city. I live in Forest Hills, Queens and it takes me 27 mins to get to Manhattan and I have a doorman, parking in the building, a gym, and 2 bedroom/2 baths. And I don’t pay any broker fees. You guys will also find more sense of community living in boroughs outside of Manhattan.

Wow! These rental prizes are absurd! For me as a countryside person it is so funny when you talk about great views. And I am thinking: You just look at houses and streets... But I wish you luck that you will end up where you want to live!

You guys are fun and sweet to watch. And, sharing the real pricing is interesting. It’s always just tough to see resources go to pools and theaters while there’s such a lack of housing.

I’ve lived in a lot of apartments over the years before owning a house. One thing I experienced and seen with recent Tiktok stories is don’t rent a place at your top budget because they could easily raise the rent when your lease renews and you will be hunting for a new place again. Go for the 2nd or 3rd option if you think your budget couldn’t handle an increase the next year or so. I have seen a lot of people with 20%+ increase in rent since the pandemic.

Smart move! As someone from NYC it’s too expensive, filthy, crime ridden to be worth it. :) you guys are happy because you came here to eat good food and you got to go home 🏡 ❤

I was expecting you to look at "The Real Little Italy" in the Bronx neighborhood from your previous videos. That neighborhood would probably be more in line with your budget and help you feel connected to the Italian culture.
