Those are the most visible hidden screws I've ever seen

That's why I carved the entire apartment including all the furniture out of a single marble boulder. No screws required.

Finally, the expensive inconvenient fastener I've always wanted

Just what I always wanted! A fastener bit that I only use once and have to sell my kidneys to afford.

Gotta love a solution in search of a problem.

If you like the metal plug look, stick a magnet the same size as your screw head on top of the screw.

Ah, yes, I need a whole proprietary solution to a $5 problem.

I'd rather not pay $13, 000 for a couple of screws

Now instead of an invisible hidden screw, I can have a giant round aluminum circle with an irregular triangular shape on it. Such an improvement!

I like my floating shelves to have no visible mountings at all.

You can seat screws pretty deep and then cap the hole. Looks much cleaner.

Just use a regular screw and put a chunk of metal on top if that’s the look you’re going for

If you prefer the look of a giant metal disk over a screw head, you should be able to achieve this aesthetic much cheaper than having to resort to a precision machined proprietary screw and the proprietary tools it'll require.

Just use a metal disk plug instead. Bore your wood for the metal disk like you're doing here, sink a regular screw flush with the base of the hole, then shove a regular metal disk in the hole to achieve your desired look. If you're worried about the loose metal disk falling out, maybe glue a thin metal face onto a weak magnet. The magnet will hold the disk in place for regular, everyday use. If you need to access the screw for whatever reason, just use a stronger magnet to pop the disk out.

Ah yes. The exact reason to make a floating shelf cost over 100$.

That's about as useful as someone recording themselves reacting to videos.

How about a recessed cleat. Works for me all the time. This is a design that solves a problem that isn't a problem.

Prefer the look for a shelf like this of countersinking the screws and using a flush plug with the same woodgrain.

When the screws costs 4 times more than the shelf.
