The skills section on a resume can be extremely helpful in demonstrating why you are a great fit for the position, but I see so many people not making the most of their skills or overcomplicating this section. Today we will talk about what you can and can’t put in your resume skills section and how to draw the recruiter’s eye to the most important piece of information.

Hi, so I just wanted to say that I was binge watching your interview videos and I was moved on to the second interview (which was yesterday)!! After the second interview, they offered me the job!! 😊

Commenting to say I had a huge huge interview yesterday, I took a ton of advice from you and was super prepared. It will be potentially a few weeks until I hear back.. This is a highly competitive position.. Hopefully I'll be back with good news <3 thanks for all the help. I will for sure nail any other interviews if this doesn't work out

My goodness!! I never, for the life of me, could have guessed what to put in the skills section. All these years it’s been a mixture of soft and some hard. Wow. No wonder my applications never get picked!

Girl thank you! I’m buying you a coffee!!! ❤❤

Great info! I will say though, soft skills are just as important, if not, more important than hard skills. I have gotten better feedback from employers when including soft skills, it is interesting to them and main talking points in successful interviews I've had.

Now I know more about the do's and don'ts of resume skills. Great video, thank you!

Biggest question for me: what if you're like me and have no skills, talents or experience? Leaving it blank is a bad idea but there's also nothing to put on the list

100% wrong about the first one. Employers are increasingly becoming frustrated with the lack of soft skills in graduate employees. They know you have hard skills that you and all your peers learnt at college. They don't know whether you're a leader, a team player, adaptable, etc.

n 2024, it's not just about applying for jobs—it's about applying the right way. My tutorials give educators the tools they need to succeed in careers beyond teaching.

Your logic for why one should not write soft skills, seems a bit a flawed, as one could easily apply the same logic to hard skills: "Oh you say you know C++, well then it must be true"... That is not a hell of an argument to put up.

Thank you for sharing. Please after highlighting the Heading i.e SKILLS. Do I still add skills after stating the skill e.g Analytical Skills, Communication Skills or do i just type it as •Analytical • Communication etc.

Here I was thinking that the world wants more soft skills, not hard skills. Anyone can pick up a course but a lot of people lack EQ.

I've been watching your videos and I just used the "hard question". With my nerves I ended up asking "Is there anything you'd like me for me to clarify that it maybe making you question hiring me?" The answer was "No", then she proceeded to tell me the next steps in the hiring process and to reach her by Monday for an update. I'm pretty sure this is a bad thing?

I thought ATS has a hard time with columns?

very helpful and clear recommendations.

HELP!!! I am so confused. I am older and returning to work after a long illness. You say to column your skills and use bullets, and others (Andrew Lacivita, I have seen comment on your channel about other things) he recommends a CORE COMPETENCY SECTION, and I list them in sentence form here, which is better? Also, because I am older I have 30 + years experience. To try and keep to a two page maximum, I have only listed the last 20 years experience, what is your recommendation in this situation?

This isn't helpful. You should have included a template to show us how this would look exactly on a resume!
