Should We Follow All Hadith? | Dr. Shabir Ally

Let's continue our series on Taking a Balanced Approach to Hadith. In today's episode, we'll explore the idea of validity in hadith. If we say that hadith are sayings of the Prophet, then shouldn't we, as followers of the Sunnah and of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, accept the hadith as we find them? Is this a problematic approach? Good interview. It's refreshing to see someone thinking logically. Don't see that much often from Muslims nowadays, they are always ready to fight and even do takfir for rejection of hadiths. Even though that the Quran warns us a lot about following hadith from anyone but Allah.

Not only Hadith, anything goes along with Quran, I accept it, otherwise not.

to those who say that without hadith we wouldn't know how to pray, i say, prayer is passed from father to son and from mother to daughter, so even without hadith, we would all know how to pray (through actions and not just sayings) i am not saying that all hadithes are fabricated, however a large sum of them might, and that makes it extremely difficult to check and see which is authentic and is fabricated.

In my humble opinion, Quraan clearly says that "Follow the Quraan and follow the Messenger". Prophet Muhammad carried the dual responsibility of being a "Prophet" as well as the "Messenger" of Quraan. Had Allah (SWT) ordained us to follow Prophet Muhammad, then it would have made sense to follow his life and attributes (which have been compiled into Hadith). And how can Quraan be followed without following what the "Messenger" delivers. If Allah (SWT) wanted all sayings of Prophet Muhammad were to be followed, he would have definitely ensured somehow that all of it remained untarnished and immutable (which Allah (SWT) certainly did ensure for the message of Quraan itself. So we need to understand the fine line between Muhammad the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and Muhammad the Messenger. Allah (SWT) did not mention anywhere in the Quraan to follow Prophet Muhammad. There is a very clear distinction between following the Prophet and following the Messenger. Hope it makes sense?

31:21: Allah said: When it is said to them "Follow what Allah has revealed" but they say "Rather we follow what we found our parents has devoted to. Surah Al-Furqan
Then the Messenger will say: "O my Lord! truly my people took this Qur'ane for just foolish nonsense." (30) 


سُوۡرَةُ الفُرقان
وَقَالَ ٱلرَّسُولُ
يَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ قَوۡمِى ٱتَّخَذُواْ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ مَهۡجُورً۬ا (٣٠) 





Beware of Hadith, what an indictment on judgement day!  
100% proof that by following Hadiths Islam has lost its soul.  If we want to follow the Nabi SAW's Sunnah then we can only follow the nobal Quran just as he did, he never authorised us to follow anything from his own mouth.

One of my preferred hadiths is from Sahih Muslim:
A person asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the eating of the lizard, whereupon he said. I neither eat it, nor do I prohibit it.
