HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, but is HDR worth it? Do you really get a 'high' dynamic range with today's TVs?

Is it worth investing in HDR for cinematographers, content creators and post houses? This video will answer all your questions.

Awesome video bro. Really gives an understanding of all the HDR talk that made me go out and buy a Samsung HDR TV and realize the limitations of today compared to what will be available down the line.

I like how most TVs pop up an on-screen notification that tells you it's getting an HDR signal, because otherwise no one would notice.

Thanks a bunch! I guess I had a better grasp on the tech than I thought, but this is exactly the kind of explanation I'd been hoping to stumble across for a while.

You brought to light my confusion with HDR formats, after this, I understand what I'm getting myself into when it comes to the display market.

Now this is what I was looking for. You made it crystal clear with your explanation. I am watching this video after July 2020 and it still holds true from customer's perspective considering the offerings we have in Indian market. Thanks for saving me some money, I was about to spend on my next HDR/Dolby Vision tv. Thanks a lot.

From a consumer standpoint, how many features do we need to be satisfied with what we have in abundance already?

This video has addressed many of the problems I encountered during image capture with Kodaks, Nikon and Canon cameras. A little difficult to follow with all the diagrams and terminology but the principles are intact.

Fantastic video, can see myself watching it a couple of times as I have done with your other videos. Great for busting myths, I was half under the impression that with more hdr screens out there, the footage from my a7s would look better and better, not quite that simple! Id love to see some impressions of anyone using hdr in the field. The new shogun monitors have atom hdr on them as a preview function. I havent used it in depth myself but when I have and when I have seen others use it, they take one look and turn it off as it's not that useful a tool and completely changes how the image looks on screen, often for the worse, or at least perceived worse.

Great content, huge help. Is there any thoughts on new monitors that have come out? Also any chance for an update?

Extraordinary video man :D...this is the best explication about HDR and from the consumers point of view its great..i was also under the impression that for now HDR is not worth it for simple people like me but seeing your video convinced me for good :D..and yes you are right, maybe in 5 years from now we are gonna have true HDR with panels that can reach 10000 nits..than it will maybe worth the effort of paying so much money on a TV, but til then i'm more than 100% happy playing my ps4 pro in SDR...in fact to tell you the truth I like the colors more in SDR..its still a game and I want it to feel like a game...if I want HDR I have that in real life every day again thank you for your deep video and thank you for what are you doing for us the simple consumers!

Nice video, I have a GH 5 and after watching this I'm concerned that shooting in v log might be a waste if the normal monitors can't see the 12 stops dynamic range. Or would v log still have its advantage on grading color?
