Steely Dan's 1972 track, "Only a Fool Would Say That." The song was allegedly written to mock the "dangerously insensitive" naivety of John Lennon's "Imagine," as he sings about no possessions on an all-white Steinway inside of his all-white rock star mansion.

Only a fool might not consider that the deceptively simple melody, fills and chord structure, plus how the lyrics are structured to have the insincere lines attached to 'only a fool would say that' might actually be an homage to Lennon. Whether it's deliberate or the opposite, who knows? Art is in eye of the beholder- or is it the promoter?

I loved the Beatles and some of their solo work, but I never liked Imagine and So This is Chistmas. I always found them to be very hypocritical.
