I helped coordinate the American flag on the discord. We were very serious about how the flag should be kept as pristine as possible, to follow the flag code. However, the reddit hivemind expanding the flag, as well as pressure to add art on the flag made us put the subreddit name on the flag, the discord exploded after we did that and we had over 1000 people in a single discord event call at one point. Then with a coordinated effort we selected one monument to build at a time, and over the course of an hour the pixel art was done

I didnt even know about r/place until the day the white out happened, so I just went on the same day and was just placing some black blocks then I went on a different tab since there was cooldown then when I came back I saw white 4 pointed stars everywhere and just random white gaps, I was so confused
