That’s really dirty. Intentionally screwing their customers. They’re REALLY not driving loyalty, but rather animosity with their customer base.

This kind of tech limitation should be illegal and Apple should be fined billions for doing this.

Imagine the USB-C cables coming with your iPad and MacBook cannot give you the full charging and transfer speeds on the new iPhone

Most iphone users will not care about MFI. They'll use whatever USB-C cables they have laying around and be just fine with it.

I guess a lot of people will be just ok with charging using normal USB-C cables. Many are charging their phones overnight and then it really makes no difference, if your cable is 25W or 50W. Let's see how this Apple plan goes, but I doubt they will be making as much money on USB-C as they were on Lightning.

If the Apple USB C cable that came with my 2018 16” MBP doesn’t work at full speed, I’ll happily join the inevitable class-action.

I expect one more surprise: no cable in the box! They will say there is no need for it, since everyone told them to switch to USB-C because those cables are already everywhere!... So if anyone wants full perfomance, he/she will need to buy an MFI USB-C cable!

Remember when Apple had ads about how easy their setups were? Now we have to figure out if we have "the right kind" of USB-C cable.

This is peak Apple greed because this hasn't existed for iPad or MacBook to charge or transfer data at peak speeds. Was going to wait for the 15 Pro because USB-C but there's just a part of me that doesn't want to give in to their scheme. Probably just go with S24 Ultra instead.

What the hell is wrong with this guy. He's happy that Apple went out of their way to make an anti-consumer move.

Well, Apple seems to not get the point EU is making. EU will just update their laws to prevent companies to limit USB-C in software and give fine to Apple.
Artificial limitations are big no no in EU.

20 watt charging, lightning port, no underscreen fingerprint sensor …. In 2023.

Only apple could do this

It’s crazy how I watch every tech YouTuber talk about the same stuff, and I never get tired of it.

Why the 'sorry EU' in the title? It should say 'sorry Apple customers'. They're the ones being screwed over.

I don't care neither about charge speed nor transfer speeds. The ability to have a single cable is better for me.

Nobody plugs their phone into their computer, it's literally pointless in 2023.

Well not a big surprise, they have to protect their current revenue streams. They will meet the basic requirements and then add extra features for the higher prices. Let’s see which cable they put in the 15 Pro boxes when it arrives later this year.

What's funny is how the software limitations are legal for Apple (limiting hardware by software with capable hardware) but illegal for car companies like BMW specifically heated seat subscription system

It shouldn't have been that hard to figure out. If Intel could do it with Thunderbolt, then Apple can also do with their own MFi protocol of USB-C, just that somehow it also affects charging. Also, 20W charge is what we already have anyway, so it's not a downgrade and more than that is an upgrade. Another question is that if we already have Thunderbolt 3/4 cables, will it still be Thunderbolt or it's also going to cap the data speed as well?
