Sony A7iii Face Detection Not Available - Auto Focus Fix

How to turn on and use Face Detection autofocus frame display on the Sony A7iii camera for video recording. There are 5 main reasons that face detecting autofocus might not be working - Control with a smartphone is on, the proxy recording is on, clear image zoom is on, you have an external monitor plugged in, or you are shooting 120fps. These are the limitations of using the Face Detection feature on the Sony A7iii camera. I think you'll find that feature is more important in most cases than any of these things you need to disable.

OMG, you're a lifesaver! I just got the A7III for around 1500 and wanted to use it as a second camera for my talking head and my drum setup. Than somebody told me that autofocus facetracking won't work in video mode. I nearly got a heart attack, thinking I made a veeery dumb purchase. Not sure how I feel about all those workarounds, given that my cheap Canon M50 can do stuff like this with ease. Thank you so much!

Dude thank you for helping me figure out the face detection issue! I didn’t realize that the “control with smartphone” was the bug that turned it off.
