Richard Painter, former chief ethics counsel for George W. Bush is running for a US Senate seat for the Democrats, arguing that the Republicans have lost their way

Ugh, ethics and George W. Bush? In the same sentence?! I can't stand this guy, he smacks of disingenuousness. When will Democrats learn that a) when voters have the choice between a Republican and Republican-lite, they almost always choose the *actual* Republican, and b) it's not enough to point at Trump and rail about how vile he is, they also need to tell us what they stand FOR? Painter represents everything that is wrong with our politics in this country. He shouldn't be running for office, he should be forever shunned as a paraiah for his involvement with the Bush Crime Family. We have Obama to thank for this, for refusing to prosecute war crimes. I hope Painter loses.

Well this is a truly unbelievable piece. One question I have is this: how does Sharmini Perries keeps her face straight while interviewing a character like Painter? I can understand my fellow Americans tend to have short memories but this? WTF is an understatement. High crimes and misdemeanors? How about low crimes and felonies: IRAQ WAR? Unfortunately this type of interview is a good excuse (perhaps?) to not to give it any money as it follows the lead of the mainstream media. Shame!!!

My brain has been buffering over Mr Painter since he announced his intention to run. He sounds super sincere, but his political past and current positions are hard to reconcile. Maybe he is sincere and is so angry at DT that Professor Painter is looking for an actual opposition party. I did enjoy watching him getting mad at Hugh Hewitt on MSDNC that one time, but I fear if/once he's in office it would only be about removing DT and not prompting the progressive platform. Jury still out.

I don’t really care if he used to be a republican or a democrat. What i care about if he meant all the policies he is campaigning for. He is running a very progressive campaign and we should be supporting that and if he won, we should hold his feet to the fire. That’s the most important. Political labels really mean little in reality.

The problem isn't only Citizen's United. The problem is Buckley vs. Valeo and each case thereafter. The problem, Mr. Painter, is not "dark money." The problem is not transparency. The problem is "money" in politics. That's the problem. Private money should be banned totally from politics. We need a system of clean elections to build a constitutional direct democracy. I like some of what he's saying, but I don't think he goes far enough in some cases or phrases these issues correctly
