The sports world is mourning the death of former New England Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett after an apparent drowning. Officials say the 35-year-old was in a group of swimmers who got caught in a riptide Tuesday on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

RIP to one of the best Razorback quarterbacks of the modern era. Prayers going out to the Mallett family and everyone else who he had an impact on. It's also heartbreaking for the kids he just started coaching at White Hall, and I was certainly looking forward to seeing his budding coaching career progress. It's crazy that we just recently had a similar incident in FL with another Razorback legend, Peyton Hillis, who nearly drowned after saving his son and niece that were pulled out in a rip tide. Fortunately they all survived, but this news about Mallett definitely weighs heavy over the entire state of Arkansas right now. RIP/RIL, brother.

Thoughts & prayers are with the family. I think a lot of folks don’t realize that rip currents aren’t a wave it’s an actual tide, think of it like a one way highway & no matter how hard you try to swim back to shore, your actually going further out to sea. If you ever get caught in one, don’t panic, pray & swim laterally for at least a mile, I’m sorry if this sounds harsh but it’s for your safety, again thoughts & prayers are with the family.
