Being a Chinese We used to Look Up to USA all the time. When I first went to USA to study for Master’s in 2004, I was shocked that every American family has cars, I was very envious. At that time, only Rich families in China could afford cars. Fast forward to 2024, now almost all Chinese families have cars, often more than 1. And we produce and export cars now more than anyone else. Now in Fortune 500 companies, USA has about 130, while China has more than 140. It’s nothing short of a miracle even for us Chinese.

China does not want to compare itself with other countries, nor does it wish to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries; it just wants to live its own life well.

Chinese technology also dominates the world by controlling 37 fields, even beating the US and western countries which are increasingly weak and powerless in the field of technological innovation

Hard-working and honest individuals, coupled with a government that is committed and responsible, alongside a united and supportive community.

Aside from all the factors discussed in this video, there must be something particularly unique about the mindset of every Chinese individual. Any advanced society requires cooperation and collaboration among three key players: government, community, and individuals.

Shanghai was never a small village, it has always been the second city in china ...if you want to compare China's growth you need to compare Shenzhen in the 90s to Shenzhen now...

in year 1600s china was technology advanced and maybe the most civilized nation in the world. During that time, EU nations (US was not founded yet :)) sent many scholars and monks to the Beijing, capital city of chinese empire for the study of the astronomical, mathematical and engineering knowledge. They brought a lots of chinese literature back to europe and translated them into important local languages like French, German, Latin etc (English was back then only second or third tier of languages).

I'm sorry but India didn't technically open it's economy in 1991. It needed 2nd round of reforms which we never got.
1. Exclusive economic zones Missing in india.
2. Bureaucratic reforms never happened in India.
3. No judiciary reforms in India.
4. No push for manufacturing at all
5. Very bad focus on health, education and R&D in India.
These 5 things China got it right

I think you left out private enterprises from the equation. The likes of Huawei, Tencent, BYD, Alibaba, etc are not SOE nor funded by FDI.

In education, you fail to mention the focus on STEM which is the core of China's technology rise and is the reason it will surpass the west in technology in the future. The west cannot field the manpower needed to lead in the multitude of sectors of technology that China can. In fact, one of the reason for America's success in technology has been its attraction of the smartest Chinese, Indians, etal that migrated and become citizens of the US. Unfortunately that trend is diminishing and with the Chinese, there is a reverse brain drain.

However, your points are very compelling to the reasons why China rose so fast. I would only add that the Chinese are willing to work hard and long hours that makes them competitive in almost all areas of business they choose to pursue. Everything from agriculture to restaurants, you will find Chinese working long hours and have created efficiency in their particular discipline. As the US is finding out, throwing money at a problem is not the total solution. It requires a dedicated and hard working workforce to compete on the world stage.

Very good analysis. I have also studied China's economic progress over the past decade. Hard work and discipline has given the chinese people a monumental advantage which cannot be taken away by multilateral agreements in Europe.

The development of China is largely due to its ethnic culture. Chinese people are hardworking and hardworking, with a high pursuit of money. With the support of the government and a large influx of manufacturing capital after the reform and opening up, the competition in the huge market of 1.4 billion people has been fierce since they started school. Most of their middle class members have been attending extracurricular tutoring classes in addition to school since childhood, which has also created a large number of talented students and engineers in various fields~
