Dance 2 Trance was a project from Rolf Ellmer a.k.a. Jam El Mar, together with Dag Lerner a.k.a. DJ Dag. In the year 1990 the very first ever Dance 2 Trance record got released; a 2 track vinyl with the song “Dance 2 Trance” on side A and “We Came In Peace” on side B.

The big commercial break-through for Dance 2 Trance came 2 years later, with their track “Power Of American Natives” for which they worked together with singer Linda Rocco.
It became a Top 10 hit in countries such as Germany, The Netherlands, Finland, Norway and Austria.

For this week’s vlog I sat down with Jam El Mar in his studio, to ask a him about the story behind “Power Of American Natives” and more.

Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Jam is a legend - don't know how you landed the interview but well done! When Dance 2 Trance & Jam N Spoon were doing their thing i was much younger ;) and very much into the dance scene. They had a sound which just worked and actually still sounds good. Wonderful nostalgia. Thank you for doing this.

7:46 the word you were looking for is "chant" :)

Great interview. So bad Linda was not involved. Especially if she lived close by.

"Moon Spirits" is my favorite trance album. (Yes, I'm that old.)

Incredible. So phenomenal the times back than, the production....lol...how we used to really MAX whatever we could do with what we had in our Studios. Limitations everywhere....we had to use our Studio equipment to the limit. And you can hear it when you listen to the great classics of the time....him talking about the Korg Wavestation....my favorite Synth for Atmospheric Ambient type pads...I used to get lost in programming the darn thing.

Thanks for putting a name and face to part of D2T. I'm listening to Revival and blown away by the bass and kick drum combo plus the rest of it let alone it was from 30 years ago. Also brought back great memories of touring with a German band in 1996.

Another great interview! Well done. Shame Peyote ‎– Alcatraz wasn't mentioned! Tying in with the native American theme. That was a stunning, deep and often overlooked 'recovery' classic!

Wow! Supercool interview. :) Thanks! Gratitude. I was glad to hear about the spontaneous creative process of composing "Power Of American Natives" and the story behind the bassdrum. :)
