Honestly a BL doesn’t need an NC scene. I just finished Vice Versa & I absolutely love it. There were about 3 to 4 kiss scenes and it the whole story was wholesome. Check Out the series is a perfect example of why NC scenes do not show the quality of the show.

Pan and Nott's story also had me in such a strong chokehold, Seng completely blew me out of the water with his acting too. Like, I knew he could throw himself into a role from what we saw in SCOY, but this was sooo different and intense in such a different way. The shade the series throws at delulu fans while also portraying the complexities of being queer in the very strong world of BL ships is fascinating. They're both into men, play gay characters, are showered with praise and money for fanservicing as a gay couple, yet the homophobic comments on social media and that scene when they go back to his hometown shows that it's still not accepted or potentially even safe for them to be an out and open couple. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the rest of the stories in this show, please make that a series! I'm waiting till this 2nd one is finished to binge it bc tbh the cast didn't really entice me and I needed a mental break after Pan and Nott's journey. And it looks like I'll have to revisit your video on the Perth Saint issue before watching it, bc they're pulling a lot of inspiration from that situation.

I loved your analysis. It’s so upsetting that actors have to go through these things in hopes of succeeding in the industry. It’s so obvious that bl producers prey on young boys so they can groom and easily exploit them.

I also loved that this show calls out how complicit fans and social media are in the detriment of our favorite actors. It’s scary how fast fandoms and narratives can change. I understand why actors can become depressed so easily. They can never please everyone on social media.

Everything is a cycle. Bl producers analyze how fans and social media react to certain things so they can give us what we want to put more money and their pockets. That’s why shipping, fan service, and NC scenes are so popular now cause that’s what goes viral and gets all the positive attention from fans.

I hope you’re able to do an analysis on the 3 remaining stories. I hope more people will watch this show. These are very important topics we need to have in the bl fandom ❤

This is an important series, I'm glad it's making people question the ethics of the industry behind the scenes. Media like this gives us awareness and makes us demand better for actors, and anyone who is considered a junior to a senior. As a gay man, I love to see my love represented on screen, it's the only love I can relate to. I love series like manner of death that allows the main couple to be gay but also has a rich plotline. Diverse, LGBT stories are important, but simultaneously, that importance is not an excuse to push actors and writers over boundaries.

'culturally accepted but it does not mean it is right. ' I can agree no more. too many toxic things are culturally accepted in Asia.

Honestly, this show really made me question the bl industry and all the stuff that might go on behind the scenes. I have only seen the first five episodes until now, but it has already become a strong competitor of being my favorite bl of this year. Although I would say it's more than "just" a bl... I think it calls out (rightfully) the bl industry and its fans...
One of the things that impressed me the most was Seng's acting, he was just incredible! I really felt for his character and am 100% sure this exploitation happens to more actors in the real world than we would think.
Thank you for this great video! I really feel like more bl fans should watch this show, because it might make them rethink about things like "fan service" and "shipping".

I’ve been plannning to watch this series and OH.MY.GOD. I literally CRIED just at you briefly telling the plot, this show is really interesting and fucking sad. It really has me thinking what my favorites have gone through and wondering if they’ve gone through similar situations :((

I just watched WoY and am deeply impressed not only by the acting of the actors, but also by the story. Your review confirms that everything shown is not that far removed from the real conditions. It was hard to bear how different people in the “industry” hurt each other (also consciously). The role of the fans (and therefore my own) in all of these events also makes me very thoughtful.
It's just a shame that the individual stories always have happy endings. Well, the plot is intense enough that you almost need a happy ending, but I doubt whether these stories would actually end like that in RL. (and the second story Bew/Gus is actually even more intense)

Never doubt, you are good at what you do. I'm new to BL but, well, my age puts me well outside the demographic. That being said, there are several issues in series that I find more than troubling. I won't list them, I'm sure you know what they are. I thank you for your mature, unbiased, straightforward approach to difficult subjects.

God I literally was just talking to my friends about how there’s been a change in bl and the amount of nc scenes. You can especially see it with Between Us and how the couple even have a uncut version compared to the original UWMA series. Its like you can read my mind.

Please please talk about the other stories. I recently watched this series and the events going on in the industry rn relay so much and it’s so sad. I would love to see someone talk about the rest of the stories

This is an important subject to touch upon. It's so sad, what actors have to go through sometimes; writers, managers, producers, directors etc abusing their power, making them do something they really don't want, and wanting them to be a certain way(just like it can be in the music industry sometimes, where certain people have specific demands to how you are gonna look and sound for you to work together or take most of the rights/money for themselves etc.) and how some fans can really go too far(with any kind of celebrity really)and having to do certain things to be popular/stay relevant or it can be hard sometimes, that you can't please everyone and things can change so fast.

I hope this series does well and gets people also fans talking. But I have a feeling, it will get a second season and the important subjects will be forgotten (looking at you, Call It What You Want) I didn’t know this existed till now. I’ve seen everything that’s happening in the show, in real life
(especially, in relation to KinnPorsche) I’ve researched actors, companies, writers etc. the whole lot, since I’ve been in the fandom and I’m not happy about any of it, one bit. To the companies and writers, do better. If you want viewers and fans. To the fans, go outside and touch grass. What you see on screen, isn’t happening in real life. I can guarantee you that and if two actors are together, it’s none of your business. If you want to support them, leave them alone. To the actors, remember what’s important: you. I know it’s a different culture but don’t put yourself through stuff like fanservice, if you don’t feel comfortable. It’s not worth your time. Don’t come into the BL industry or watch BL. If any of you, can’t be normal.

I keep seeing comments in shorts posted of actors together outside the series. So many people ask if they are really in a relationship. When I have time, I remark that if there is a camera, assume they are putting on a show.

I think it’s better to err on the side of caution than yo believe everything posted. And honestly, idc if they are really dating. If the show is good, I’m happy. If they post extra stuff being silly and makes me laugh? That’s awesome. It I never need to know or believe they are real couples.

At least there are productions like this to show these open the eyes of the fans...

I only discovered bl's about 18 months ago and have watched everyone I can find. I love the Thai bl's but sometimes I'm frustrated by them because the reality that these actors are in is just ridiculous! Between all the scandals between management, studios and crazy fans these guys go through Hell. War of Y is great I'm waiting for episode 12 to air. I've noticed the NC scenes have increased and Check Out was one of the most intense so far but, and it may be because I'm a middle aged gay man, there have been a couple bl's that had no NC scenes and were really great. La Cuisine is definitely in my top 3 bl's I've seen this year and the main couple had a small kiss and one of the side couples had a more intense kiss but that was the last episode and there was no skin shown. I don't need NC scenes to enjoy any series/movie but if it's done well and it doesn't seem forced I'm fine with it. Most bl actors are straight and they understand that they are just playing a role. I saw part of a reaction video from the leads in Love In The Air where they were talking about them improvising a NC scene. They talked about how their characters were "crazy in love" at that point so they had to show that and they did! These actors don't get the credit they deserve because a lot of them are going to college and working and the others have already graduated with some impressive degrees. I'm a little off topic but my point is if these guys have the support they need and take this as just a job and ignore the hate from wherever it comes from they can open up a bit more like KinnPorche, Check Out, War of Y and some others but if they aren't comfortable then they ruin the whole series and that's not entirely all their fault.

I do not know how I missed this video as I have been dying for someone to talk about this show. Great analysis as usual. I loved it even though it was so hard and ugly. What an exposure. I loved Pan and Nott's story. The acting was excellent. It was so hard watching the disintegration of Pan. And worse was he had the gorgeous, sweet Nott but he couldn't see it for the stardom and expectations. The show was brutal in its depictions of the industry and the fans. I, personally, loathe the 'shipping' culture and fan service. It seems to be all toxic. And I am sure it goes way further than just "harassment". What we saw from Pan's manager was akin to pimping. Her "calls" were a way for her to leave the room and him alone with whatever predator is there. This is the whole history of women pretty much but I can see the evolution in the BL industry. The commodification of these boys and young men is awful and seems to be more about keeping them in a box as a product than nurturing and elevating talent. It has taken me a while to realise that the fans are also guilty of this and that social media is savage. It took me a while to realise just what was going on and that it was a construct of the industry, not just fans gossiping on Twitter. I still find it hard to believe. This show and Lovely Writer (damn I loved that show) really revealed so much, especially to me, personally, as I had no clue it was all so fake but also that these actors could be straight! I just assumed everyone was gay lol. Please do the other stories from this show. What a revelation. Thank you for your thoughtful and non-hysterical analysis. 😊🙏
