STORING RATCHET STRAPS

In this episode I go over how I wrap up and store ratchet straps/tie downs when I'm done with them. Two methods: one uses a band that wraps around the strap, one needs nothing at all but the ratchet strap itself.

J - hook or double J -hook is also known as a Wire hook . Wire hooks work well when used in conjunction with short chain extensions . Extensions incorporate a chain grab hook and a pear shaped ring which will wrap into a chain pocket or chain spool easily . 3/8” in size .

Thank you for this. Some of the videos are where the hook face is even with the strap when you lay it down, but my straps are where the hook sticks up from the strap when you lay it down, like yours. Your technique works like a charm. Nice job!

How about using a Zip Tie around the bundle to secure the rolled up strap? They cut easily, are disposable, and easily replaced each time you need to store a strap.

Just bundled up my ratchet straps as in the first example and it works like a charm!! Great suggestion and thanks for sharing!!! 👍👍👍

I'd be curious how time efficient the first method is (I already do something like the second). I have to store and re-deploy straps multiple times a day with my new job, and it takes so much time.

With the first method, the loose end is underneath when in use so could get caught under the ratcheted end.

How do you decide what size band is to be used on the strap?

Great videos! Thank you! Just combining the thoughts of two of your videos about ratchet straps, it led me to a question about feeding the strap through. In the other video, at 3:30, it mentions to feed the strap towards the handle, but in this wrapping video, it looks like it was gone the other way? Does this mean that after wrapping, you'd need to remove the entire strap to re-feed it? Thank you again! :)

: As an alternative to the second method instead of trying to find out where to obtain those bands…why not try bicycle tire tubes . Cut the necessary length to fit and glue (super glue, gorilla glue or others) and voila, instant and cheap bands. Note: I, personally, have not tried this but it was a thought on the fly while reading this. Might work - might not idk. I think it’s worth a try tho - especially if you have old tire tubes lying around.

Great technique here !! Unfortunately I don’t see a link to “ The Bands”. Never seen these and never heard of a “ Cargo Store “ but I could use these bands for other things as well. ( note: if I can’t find the bands I plan to use a wire tie ( like a long bread tie ) across each end of the ratchet, about a third of the way in from each end. ( but I’d REALLY appreciate knowing where I can get these or at least a better name for them and possibly a company. Thanks much. P.S. the how to use vid you made was also superb, as I’m sure I’ve looked something like a 3 stooges movie in the past getting these things to work correctly. Cheers !!
