Crispy Pan Fried Buns Recipe 🥟🥟
Dough:
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
¾ cup warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp oil
A pinch of salt
Filling:
300g ground pork
2-3 green onions, finely chopped
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp ginger, minced
1 tbsp garlic, minced
1 tsp sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
To Cook:
2 tbsp oil for frying
½ cup water for steaming
Instructions:
Make the Dough: Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and oil. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 8-10 minutes). Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
Make the Filling: In a bowl, combine ground pork, green onions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, ginger, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
Shape the Buns: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into a small disk (about 3-4 inches in diameter).
Place filling in the center of the dough disk. Gather the edges and pinch to seal, forming a round bun. Set aside, seam side down.
Pan-fry the Buns: Heat oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Place the buns seam side down in the pan, slightly apart. Fry the buns for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
Add ½ cup water to the pan and immediately cover it. Steam the buns for 8-10 minutes until the water evaporates and the buns are fully cooked.
Uncover and continue frying for another 2-3 minutes to crisp up the bottoms.
Serve: Remove the buns from the pan and serve hot. You can sprinkle sesame seeds and green onions on top for extra flavor.
Enjoy your crispy, juicy pan-fried buns!
