I’m glad these songs are played at the appropriate tempo. Many don’t realize it was movies that sped these tunes up for comedic effect. Slowing them down not only gives an accurate feel to the original songs, but also helps us to see why people could jive and dance to it. Scott Joplin himself described ragtime as having swing before Jazz was even formally formulated.

It would be nice if you could list names of each tune as it is playing. Anyhow I love your playing, it is exactly how Joplin and the others intended the "cakewalk " and other post-minstrel dances to be played, (ie) only as fast as needed to dance to !

These are cool, fun and sassy. Good mood is automatic while listening. My friends cannot believe I listen to and enjoy this. I listen to Motorhead to Mozart. I worked in a music store where I also took lessons. That's where i really gained a deeper appreciation for many styles, genres of music. Also, I published a zibe with "Rag" in the name so I've been keen on ragtime music for sone time. THANK YOU for sharing this!!!

Interesting comments. To get a real feel for the "original" tempi of these you can try the old James Cagney movie "Public Enemy." Watch for the scene near the beginning of the movie in which the protagonist and his buddy walk into a local speakeasy.

Im coming into town after having dug ditch all day.. I find an unminded hoop and stick..after about 3 miles i get bored and stop for a drink at the river. It's payday. It's gonna be a bully evening!
