Pardon my misidentification of factions/siege engines etc. As you can tell if you watch other content from my channel, the Middle Ages are not quite my area of expertise... 😅

This is high middle ages. Green represents western Europe (England and France). Blue is nordic (Scandinavia & Baltic). Purple is turkey & Balkans. Orange is HRE/central Europe

The red faction is clearly 10th to 13th century Byzantines, the two-headed eagle, the Varangian guard infantry unit, the archers with the Kairouan style helmets, and the Roman style catapults.

You mentioned frustration of die rolling in original Risk, I just bought Risk:europe and it expanded on original Risk so much. There are still dice but the tactical layer is way beyond Risk and in my opinion a lot of fun. It's a good game.

Try this. Risk Europe, but basic infantry up to 3 times per turn can launch a battle on the small tactical level (total war style) as if you are getting directly involved in a battle when leaving it up to chance is going badly. blue can attack as a game of hnefatafl purple (mongols) can attack with a game of xianqi green can attack with a game of chess, and the Slavs can attack with any of the three as they were a blending of the cultures. Potentially limit 3 small battles per attack (your general can’t stay awake more than 72 hours)

I used this as a gateway game for years to get friends into the hobby

Absolutely agree! I still have the Risk Europe that my parents bought me in 1987. It has the little castles and banners for all the empires. Also the boat.

What do the colours do, ik its how cold the place is but does it serve any functional purpose at all, if someone could explain I'd appreciate it

This looks really cool. I like Risk so I might pick this up as I like European history as well. Great video here covering the game.

Yeah not sure about three dudes carrying a log. Swing ram on a cart would be better. But rest of the game looks great.

This is actually a good version of risk that I enjoy.

Looks like the map went more for actual political entities instead of Geography when creating the spaces

Did you explain how you got those coins or why you have those coins instead of the cardboard ones?

Nice video! I did the exact same thing, bought 2 of these just to get hold of the minis. I will make what you talked about, a midevial strategy game with extensive combat, plenty of units and a huge map. Just have to finish everything with the Rome Rising Empires game first. You can check out the Rome game on my profile here on YouTube.
