In part one of our mangrove series, we head to the Florida Aquarium for an overview of these beautiful trees & make our way to a local hobbyists house for some tips and tricks! Mangroves can add a lot of personality and nutritional benefits to your reef tank!

I want to correct a miss speak. The bonsai wire is aluminum with coating, not copper. The coating allows me to minimize any leaching of aluminum into the tank if I needed to spray my mangrove trees. I super glue the cut ends of the wire to cap off the exposed metal end.

Love the video and great info. But it takes a lot more than 3 years for a red mangrove to give birth to propagule seeds. I would say at least 10-15 years. That's just a guess but I have many that are 3 years old and they are still only around 2-3 feet long.

Can mangrove roots eventually break the glass or acrylic of your aquarium? 🤔

Do the mangrove roots need to be planted in substrate or can they be left floating in the water column? I would like to put a couple in the back chamber of my fluval evo and secure it in place but the roots will be left suspended.

Great video! Anyone have any idea how wide the trunks get at the waterline with these mangroves? I'm having a lid designed with mangrove cutouts, but have no idea what size to make them. Any info would be appreciated.

i believe there are so many myths about mangroves because they are super slow trees. and beacuse they are slow it can not adopt fast environmental changes like transplant. I have 3 different kinds of mangrove in my room and one is almost dying after a big transplant. evey pant needs adoptation period when transplanted. some hours some months. I think mangroves need weeks
