Fuel economy and still every semi-automatic is 50 kilos heavier then manual gearbox, and that affect on fuel consumption, more kilos, more fuel - simple. Also when it fails, you need, a LOT of money to fix semi-automatic

Are there any known numbers of the declines on the DSG? Bec that would make more of a statement instead of just saying it. People won’t trust you saying that it’s better now bec they will still follow the bad reviews on diff media platforms. As a VW fan I hope its true that the dsg is getting fixed bec that new POLO does look stunning and will be a big seller. Planning on buying a dsg one but waiting if there are any faults with the dsg after 2 years of ownership. If not you did a good job and the POLO will be my new love!

While an excellent idea (this should have replaced every auto box in the world) the clutch packs and lower gears were simply not robust enough and there were many, many problems. That's my take, I'm not an expert so I may be wide of the mark on what the actual cause was.

VW made the mistake of not using low sulphur oil (?) initially which corroded the electronics but I would like VW to address the question of durability wrt to the clutch packs and lower gears. It would be great to hear that I'm talking nonsense and understand the real reasons for problems !

Having an automatic / electronic operation of manual gears (DSG) is a great idea, the boxes are easy to produce (and repair if necessary) and those mechatronic units are replaceable too. I'm extremely dubious about the Ford and GM 10 speed type auto's, they're simply not age proven enough and no one maintains / repairs them.

I'm a VW Multivan owner of 15 years, but if I were to get another vehicle it would be Toyota all the way. I think it's ridiculous that VW timing chains on their cars are being replaced after 100, 000 miles (why bother with chains if they need replacing so young?) and repair bills generally are so high now - as are car prices - reliability is key. High cost repairs are becoming normal - especially with German cars - and are becoming justified by the massive prices of new cars. That's just not a world I want to play in.
We'll see what the electric transition does. Solar panels producing hydrogen is interesting - imagine generating your own fuel!!
