+++ please note: technical difficulties end around 09:00***

Welcome to our panel discussion on Historybounding! In this live streamed panel we will be discussing our view on this popular phenomenon of bringing elements of historical dress into daily wear. We are starting off by talking about what Historybounding means to us and sharing some tips and looks, and later on will try to answer any questions that people have in the chat.

We are simultaneously hosting an instagram ‘Historybound Best Meetup’ throughout the CoCoVid weekend. Please tag your historybound look with #historyboundbest to participate, and in turn use the hashtag to find fellow historybounders!

👂 This panel does not have live captioning, sadly. It is a shame, but we weren't able to figure out how to make it work for us in this specific situation in time. After the live stream ended, automatic captions have been generated, which I have now (painstakingly, as I cannot myself hear very well what has been said) corrected to the best of my ability.

This live panel is part of CoCoVid, a collective effort by members of the costuming community to provide educational content during this weekend that would normally see us convening at Costume College, the annual costumer's conference. This event is FREE for all to attend and is funded entirely through YouTube's advertising system, but is NOT affiliated with Costume College or CGW.

I love this all, but my favorite phrase so far is “if you want to make the pretty, make the pretty!” I’ve also been drawn to historical styles, but probably 1910’s and later, particularly 1930’-1940’s in general. Unfortunately I don’t tolerate girdle type restrictions very well, so haven’t really taken the plunge, but now I’m going to “make the pretty!” It may not have the right silhouette exactly, but I’ll do the best I can.

I find it really good to have a historical/vintage style jumper because those types of clothing were so laid back at the time that you can have it as plain looking or as fashionable looking as you want to and because it wasn't seen as pretty piece of clothing for so long, it didn't change that much in the last 100 years (at least not to the point where most people can pin point it to a certain era and sweaters made for masculine dressing individuals and could also be worn by feminine dressing individuals)

I loved, loved, loved this panel! I think it's so true that people have always done history bounding but now we talk about it because there's a name for it. I have picked up clothes, accessories, etc because they look historical all my life and now, at 37, I discovered so many people do it as well and my little quirk has a name. I felt validated, to be honest. It's so easy to include historical pieces in every day clothes, right? A regency-inspired dress, an Edwardian-looking blouse, a modern walking skirt, lacing to adjust a bodice or a dress, a corset cover as a top... The possibilities are infinite.

wonderful panel. Thank you for all the encouragement. I have always added historical pieces or reproductions as a part of my style - and this conversation makes me feel included in the community even if I don't go "whole hog"

Desiree - it's hard to tell for certain just from the screenshots but I believe your lace collar is Maltese bobbin lace. The Maltese cross outer border is my main reason for this educated guess. I have a book on Maltese lacemaking but am still trying to get a grip on Petersonar and Tønder so Maltese is still in my to-learn list.
