The Coast Guard says all large debris that washed up onshore at Cape Palmerston from the MV Zim Kingston has now been removed.

Over the weekend, a helicopter removed 71 refrigerators, 81 bags of Styrofoam, 19 bags of garbage and 11 helicopter bags of debris off the beach.

The Coast Guard said crews will soon start removing debris from Guise Bay at Cape Scott, as long as the weather cooperates.

Plans are also underway to use a helicopter to remove the four washed-up shipping containers, the Coast Guard said.

More than 100 containers broke free from the MV Zim Kinston near the mouth of the Strait of Juan de Fuca during rough seas last Thursday.

Wow who knew you could get fined for cleaning up someone else's garbage off the beaches. That is one Maritime law that should be ignored by the powers that be.

The shipping company needs to clean this up. they have no right to pollute without penalty.

So cleaning up pollution from a cargo carrier, which has no intention of retrieving their 'property' and cleaning up their mess, is punishable by jail time- makes sense in this day and age.

"Our freedom is ours, you can't just take it"

Didn't stop you from trying it, huh?

Laws have nothing to do with the environment. It's all about money! You don't hear all the details of how many containers were lost. how many sunk and what's the plan for those. It's just same as usual. Government tells us to sit back shut up and let them handle it. Even if they don't they'll still get to issue and collect fines.

I'm glad when people trying to help out are criminalized, hopefully they will realize that this country isn't worth saving.

• 1:11 - "If you come across it, it's not yours, you can't just take it" - Fine, but then the owner must clean it up and take it as soon as possible. If they leave it there (eg if it's not financially viable to spend money to recover it), then they forfeit their claim to it and people CAN take it. 🙄
• 1:15 - _Who_ are the fines and jail-time for, people who see the debris but don't report it, or the owners who don't clean it up? 🤨
