Actually, pulling a strand out and dropping it in water will tell you the level of porosity your hair is by how much it sinks or floats. Hair porosity is about how tight or relaxed your hair cuticles are, which soaks in moisture or rejects it.

This isn't how you do it, infact it's the oppsite, your run your fingers up towards the scalp, if the hair "fluffs up" instead of staying smooth than it's a weak porosity

This isn't correct. You test the porosity of hair with water. High porosity soaks up water and dries quickly, low porosity take a long time to absorb water and dry. Medium porosity is in between the two.

If I run my fingers up or down the hair shaft on non-split hair, it feels smooth and it squeaks. That's low porosity. The cuticle is tightly clamped down. It also take a bit of time to saturate it with water in the shower.

u have to take a few pieces of hair out and put it in a glass of water. if it floats u have low porosity (doesn’t absorb things well) . if it stays in the middle them ur hair is middle porosity (absorbs decent) and if it sinks u have high porosity (absorbs very well)

hair dresser here, take one single strand of hair run ur fingers UP the hair shaft if it is very rough you have high porosity if it is smooth or almost fully smooth you have medium/low porosity

Nuh uh.. I've seen people do this to determine the texture (coarse, medium, fine) .. Not porosity. I've seen others put one of their hairs into a glass of water and if it reaches the bottom-->high porosity. It's some where in the middle-->medium porosity. It stays on the surface--> low porosity. I'm not sure how accurate is it but i think it at least makes some sense, don't hesitate to correct me
