I smiled to see Riley's fur being added. I have a vacuum with a canister that I take out (usually full of cat fur) and empty on the garden. It should also help discourage rodents, I hope!

We can almost use anything to use as deep mulch in the vegetable garden and enrich the nutrients for the living organisms in the soil !!!

I also grow tons of cilantro...we think along the same lines...I'de rather have cilantro as a cover crop than grass.. your garden is looking good and it looks like you are getting around.🙂

Depends what kind of grass you're using for mulch. Don't put fresh cut couch/bermuda grass as mulch. Itll root and keep on growing. Ask me how I know 😂 I like to let my grass dry out before I use it just to be safe

I am new to this mulching. I just put one batch of hay & one batch of straw down in 2 sections of the garden. I’m concerned…Does grass hay sprout when used in the garden ? If so, how do you deal with it? Thank you!

Do you have to get the drying cilantro coriander off the fence if that deluge rainfall passes through, or will you lose your seed off the drying plant, or just some of it in a heavy rain?

What's your climate like Wayland? I'm used to gardening with very little rain here in Australia, but we're going into our second year of flooding rains. I'm trying to work out the best mulching/gardening strategy to cope with the amount of water in the garden. Do you find the deep mulch helps buffer the moisture or do you think it would keep the roots too wet?

any difference between using hay versus straw for mulch?

Just be careful using hay unless you know for sure it hasnt been sprayed with any broad leaf herbicides. Even after composting hay it sticks around.
