I definitely agree on the moral aspect! I considered making a distributed dating app that'd be hosted by the community and opensource cause I was getting frustrated by mainstream dating apps being so evil.

Ultimately I arrived at the conclusion that dating sites try to solve a far more fundamental issue of society (which you also touch on at the end!) and that instead of focusing our efforts on making dating apps we should instead be focusing our efforts on building cities and communities that facilitate human interaction rather than discourage it as is unfortunately the case in every car dependent dystopia (for now that's mostly just Canada and the US).

Imbalance in f/m-ratio exists in any dating related place despite the 1:1 ratio at birth. The reason for this is that female period of dating activity is less than for men. Men remain active at the age 20-40 y.o., while females are active at age 20-30 y.o and then settle down. So, females spend on the dating market 10 years, and men spend 20 years. This inevitabely causes the imbalance on the dating market and ratio like 2:1. From legal and economic point of view, the goods with inelastic demand must be regulated, so the female sexual behavior must be put under control to limit the price and encorage more competition between them.

Maybe a question should be asked why there are more men on these sites. My female friends had terrible experiences on dating sites. Plus a lot more married men register on them and lie about their marital status.

Its much much more complicated than that. Why women wont join? Would you like to harrassed by someone every 10 seconds? If your answer is yes, change the image of harasser to man and see if answer changes. I am *not* a woman but I dont think they would even want that "advantage" . Time to change guys.

I worked with a dating coach and a guy who ran many dating sites, separately. I'm willing to openly talk about the dating coach stuff, but the dating site stuff is deeply unethical. The guy who ran the dating sites eventually completely removed his name from all of them.

That makes me think.
What if someone made a dating site that mostly just connects speed dating, gives advice, and connects dating coaches. Complete with background checks and sponsored events/programs. But that's more of a company than a site.
