As I recall Greenland was green just eight centuries ago ago, it had large pasture areas supporting large herds of cattle goats and sheep

I disagree a bit with this one. The Greenland ice sheet will likely expand over the next 20-30 years because we are moving into the cold phase of the AMO (Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation). Atmospheric CO2 is increasing, but it was also increasing from the 1950s to 1979, when the cold phase of the AMO caused the ice to increase to its 20th Century peak. There is no reason to think that won't happen again.

I wonder how much ice was gained in the little ice age which was the coldest period in 9000 years. Can we trace that in some way?

"Not to mention" (recorded history wise), we just emerged from THE LITTLE ICE AGE", and, *before* that, and fossil fuel industrialization, it was named.. oh yea, "GREENland"!

Using percentages can be misleading and often done so deliberately.
