I have been thinking about macro for a while. funny that your video showed up, handed off some really good information, and has given me a nudge into the wonderful world of close up photography. Now I guess I'll be looking at lenses!

I have been reading some of the comments posted. While most are positive, several people have commented ‘this is not macro photography’, pulling the flowers etc. What is in a persons head when they post such things? Can they not just appreciate & admire the creativity which is been demonstrated? This is a really wonderful post, very well presented, clear & concise. Keep doing what you are doing, it’s wonderful.

I always enjoy seeing the approaches others take. You've some beautiful compositions from this outing. Getting out, going slow (truly seeing one's surroundings) and experimenting with different ideas is what it's all about and the only way to make an image your own. Well done.

Very informative about both gear as well as the more subtle aspects of paying attention to the environment.

That's actually a pretty neat mirror hack tbh. I'll try it out sometime - thanks for sharing!

I've been thinking of shooting macro for a long time. Watching your video has encouraged me to stop procrastinating and start doing Macro. I have a DSLR, it's time to hunt for a macro lens then explore the "tiny" world around us. Thank you for the helpful tips and for setting me back on track to the world of Macro.

First let me say how much I enjoyed your video. I know how you feel combining two things that you enjoy, the woods and photograph.
At 68 years old and got my first camera in 1964, I've ran a lot of film and memory cards through cameras over the years. I enjoy seeing what others have found and share and you do this very well. And I'm not so old that I'm not still learning, love the tip at the end with the mirror and if I may add, turning it from the flat side to the concave I was able to take a low light picture by focusing the reflected light on the back of a flower with great success. Please continue, the world need more of your work.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, generosity, dedication and knowledge very much… and regret the gratuitously insensitive comments some folks have raised. I hope you keep creating content.

Thank you! I'm just getting more into macro and there were some very helpful tips and tricks. The bean bag thing seems so obvious now and it'll be part of my kit for more than just macro photography moving forward. Beautiful flower images as well. Seriously, thank you so much, it's inspiring to see videos like this and I might have to rummage through the house to see if there's any other household items I can use in creative fashion to take some incredible images!

I love your work. I am looking at you lying on the ground. I live Maine, and we are having a big problem with deer ticks.

Nice to encounter you, thanks to the magic of YouTube’s algorithms. I will definitely be trying out the “plant your plamp” and mirror ideas on my next macro excursion. I’m already dreaming of the day I can explore Switzerland’s natural wonders first hand!

This is a nice video, thank you very much ! I appreciate to see how you take pictures and discover the idea of using a miror. Instead of the beanbag, I use a gorillapod for shooting flowers because of it flexibility. Happy new year to all, best continuation ! 🍀
