This girl reminds me of those memes that go like: "I don't understand why there are people starving...like...just eat"

Me: Zero debt.
Also Me: Dad invested in a pre-paid program and mom worked for a state hospital which granted 50% off tuition for any state college. Both combined paid for all credits - including my brother's college as well.

Here's legit advice from someone who was on their college panel for scholarships:
Prioritize scholarships issued from your own college as you only have to compete with classmates and not a whole state, or nation.

Read up on the scholarship itself and what the donors prioritize. Don't go for scholarships that don't match your interests 1 to 1 because chances are there is someone else that's a better match and will be picked over you.

If you're a minority or the government declares your family low income, use that to your advantage. Mention your struggles in your letter and how that affects your studying/life/opportunities and how much better you would be if you had that money.

Fill out your FASFA and any other documents as that sometimes disqualifies you from the scholarship. Good luck.

As a former university Professor, I'd recommend getting your Gen Ed requirements done at a community College, get good grades, and apply for scholarships when you transfer to a 4-year school for your major.

"bro, fuck I'm homeless now"
"just buy a house lol"

In all seriousness, while it's nice she graduated because of scholarships and goes to show that she's smart, persevering and deserving, I personally find it a bit annoying how she made sound like it's the easiest thing to do. She literally said she dad in the military had a huge part in it.

I hated when peoples advice was always to get scholarships as if I have done that already lol getting scholarships is not easy and you’d probably have better luck gambling

Since her dads military she likely qualifies for Chapter 35 VA benefits. So she receives at least 1500 per month, and it increases based on the SS Cost of Living.
Additionally some schools have even more scholarships for Dependents of military veterans that covers the full cost of tuition and fees

So pretty much hit the birth lottery is the message here.

4.0 student one of the top students in my program. Got scholarships, but they cover maybe 10% of my total cost.

Live with your parents, have a job while in college, and going to a "fancy" school isn't necessary. If any of these are possible for you, definitely consider it, it will allow you to save money to put towards college.
