🗨Optometry vs. Ophthalmology ✨️Why I Chose Optometry

Optometrists and ophthalmologists are both eye specialists, but they have different levels of training and areas of expertise.

Optometrists are eye doctors who have completed a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree after a bachelor's degree. They specialize in assessing eye health and vision quality through comprehensive exams, diagnosing and treating many eye disorders that do not require surgery or further specialized care, prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses, providing vision therapy, and identifying other health conditions that may lead to eye and vision changes.

On the other hand, ophthalmologists are medical doctors who have completed an MD degree after a bachelor's degree, followed by a residency in ophthalmology. They specialize in diagnosing and treating all eye diseases, performing surgeries on the eyes, prescribing medications for eye conditions, and conducting scientific research on the eyes.

In summary, optometrists are trained to provide primary eye care services such as vision tests, eyeglass prescriptions, and treatment of common eye conditions. Ophthalmologists are trained to provide more specialized care, such as surgical interventions for complex eye diseases.
