Growing Wasabi For The First Time

In this video I try growing Wasabi (Eutrema japonicum/ Wasabia japonica) for the first time. Wasabi can be difficult to grow as it has very specific growing requirements, I plant my three Wasabi plants into three different types of soil to see which one grows best for me. I will try growing these plants in several different growing conditions over the next year or two to see what works best for me.

A little tipp, put the rotten leaves away ...thats really important because the plant sensible abaut mould

Awesome video. Its actually easy to grow them among ferns as they create the ideal habitat for Wasabi. as long as it stays on the moist side it will thrive As for hardiness, If you know you are going to get a cold winter just put a mulch on with woodland floor straw (Not Hay) and leaves upto about a foot to a foot and a half and its should survive out side at your temeratures. Ours have survived -8c only the ones with out the mulch and leaves died. You are correct and most seed and root sellers are indeed selling Hoprse Radish to unsuspecting customers as wasabi. They often mislabel it Wasabi Rocket I am told to avoid getting intro trouble.

I know a perfect place: Sutherland Grove near Oban. Freezing temps are x-rare due to proximity to ocean & has a nice stream.

Can I ask your advice I have followed your channel for a while I have A. Syzygium indoor bonsai I have had it for months now but this week the leaves have gone dry I water regular and also mist it today I placed it in the rain which it was just showers throughout the day will it come back don’t know what has happened with it thank you take care x
