This is sad, I used to live in Valencia until just this summer actually, I moved to Ohio this summer and I still have family in Valencia. Luckily they are all okay because they live in an elevated area, but I’m contacting all my friends to see if all of them are okay. My dad’s co-workers (his company is international) are mostly okay except for one who lost pretty much everything. And my friend told me that their cousins lost both their cars in their flood and just recently found them in a pile and all flooded. And my friend’s grandparents’ car and mini-crop farm they had is destroyed. I feel like I dodged a bullet and I’m praying for the people who were severely impacted or lost loved ones.

Floodwaters appear as various shades of blue and cover what was dry ground (browns and greens) earlier this month, the imagery shows. The dramatic, widespread coverage of floodwater over inland areas has almost turned coastal areas into islands.

Waterways that were hardly noticeable in the “before” satellite image from earlier in the month — like the one that cuts just south of Valencia’s city center — are now highlighted in bright blue, indicating how swollen they are.

Dozens of people remain missing as of Friday as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

Close-up before and after aerial images paint a more detailed picture of the extent of the devastation on the ground as the region begins the long process of assessing the damage and picking up the pieces.

The dramatic pictures show huge swaths of Valencia now submerged in murky brown floodwaters, with streets turned into rivers, cars strewn across buckled highways, collapsed bridges and a submerged water treatment plant.

I went on holidays in Calpe / Altea last August, so I passed through Valencia on the way, on the A-7 highway. I'm just horrified at what happened, the death toll is almost unbelievable and still climbing. Pray for Spain, send them help.
