Exploring the Hidden Gem of Kyoto | Japan Travel Vlog
Показать описание
Hello! It’s Misato from Misatravel Studio.
This time, we visited Wazuka Town, located in southern Kyoto Prefecture.
It takes about 1.5 hours from Osaka or Kyoto Station to Wazuka Town, a place known for its rich natural surroundings and as a major production area of Uji tea. (Travel times vary depending on the bus schedule, and it can take nearly 2 hours depending on train and bus connections.)
It’s an ideal spot for those who want to relax and enjoy Japan’s traditional landscape!
Please note that from around mid-April to around the end of July, some tea plantations may be covered with black nets. When I visited in mid-April in the past, some plantations had black coverings.
Since buses are infrequent, we explored by bicycle, though it’s also possible to tour the area by bus or on foot. Further down in the description, I've written a sample itinerary for bus and walking routes.

16:00 Returning by bus
Note:
・The bus schedule and time spent at each spot are estimates. Buses may run only once every two hours, so check timetables carefully before your trip! (Please note that schedules differ on weekdays and weekends/holidays).
・The distance from Shirasu and Erihara tea plantations to Aaskashinnou Mausoleum is approximately 2.7 km, about a 40-minute walk. For those preferring not to walk, a bus is available (approximately a 20-minute walk to the bus stop from the Shirasu and Erihara plantations).
・Tenku Café is not included in the itinerary. If you’d like to visit it, I suggest adding it around itinerary 5. Reservations are required, so call ahead, or if it’s hard, you can ask Wazuka-cha Cafe about the availability when you visit.
・We didn't visit Kamatsuka tea plantations, but I included it in this itinerary so that you can enjoy a lot of beautiful tea plantations.
・Due to the peak tea production season, we couldn’t visit the Harayama tea plantations, though it’s sometimes possible to explore this area. If you’re interested in visiting Harayama, ask the locals if it’s open for sightseeing. The ・Tourist Information Center is about a 10-minute walk from Wazuka-cha Cafe. The journey from the Information Center to Harayama takes about 35 minutes by bus and on foot (including about 20 minutes of walking).
*Other Spots in Wazuka Town*
*Shohoji Temple*
Although not widely known as a tourist destination, this temple is a hidden spot for autumn foliage. It’s recommended to visit during the autumn season.
*Kyoto Obubu Tea Farm*
We weren’t able to visit this time, but it’s a tea farm offering a wide variety of teas. They also conduct tea plantation tours, primarily in English, with Japanese availability upon request. Check it out if interested!
