Hold their pay hostage until they deliver on what they say with itemised monthly spending statements.

Paying them considerably less might ensure that the truly dedicated might apply

Here's a thought maybe we would pay them more if they did more. They make an exorbitant amount of money right now and they do so very little. Why would we give them an income boost when they don't deserve one?

In Singapore we pay our ministers $100k every month, because that would deter them from taking bribes, but in actual fact, that's sort of a bribe in and of itself.

They get paid too much.
They should have a smaller income. And get paid after based on preformance.

I don't think that will work. You pay them more they will work less.
You need to have a more strict system for vetting candidates and real consequences for if they violate the peoples trust or break the law.

Don’t know if they are the same as in the UK but MP, s get a decent salary and then claim 2 to 3 times that in expenses which the taxpayers has to pay. Too many snouts in the trough here.

Put politicians on minimum wage with bonus for completed work & watch how fast things get done

BS! PM Lyons and fellow Federal Parliamentarians took a 15% paycut in addition to many other budget austerity measures in 1931. We were out of the Great depression by 1935, unemployment fell significantly and manufacturing roared to life. John Adams has videos Australia's greatest PM that saved the Commonwealth.

In my observation, the greatest barrier to getting good people to run for public office are the various finance reform laws and regulations. Folks that would happily take an elected position without any compensation find themselves with "campaign violations" fines in the 4 digit range.

So what you are saying is if we pay twice as much for a dunny brush the dunny will be cleaner.
