Another tip is spend some time learning how far you hit each club. Also to improve accuracy pick a target and practice landing the ball on it.

Where should the ball be positioned if using an iron on a par 3?

You say it's a basic golf swing but when ball is on the ground aren't you trying to compress where you can't really be doing that when you are teed up?

You are not telling the truth. How could it be a “regular golf swing” if the ball is not sitting on the ground??? You didn’t take a divot, which means the swing is slighter higher on its plane.
