Eleven pens of 2016-drop black-tag young ewes drew prices from $200 to a top of $230 a head at Deniliquin breeders Merino and crossbred sheep sale on Friday.

Offered in a penning of 14,600, the market toppers were an August-shorn line of East Mundulla-blood young ewes, May/June 16-drop that were sold account Epsom Downs to Landmark Deniliquin.

Also among the leading sales were lines of Bundy-blood young ewes offered by Banyandah Pastoral lines from the Shippen family’s Bundyalumbah, Blue Gate and Liewah properties at Moulamein.

These made from $185, to $212 a head on two occasions, with buyers from Horsham, Deniliquin, Griffith and Shepparton all grabbing a sample while a February-shorn line of Praire Home young ewes, Woodpark-blood, was also well supported at $210 a head.

Three sales of crossbred young ewes were also well received and cleared with a $200/head-plus price tag. These were annual consignments by Cumnock Park – 128 February-shorn Border Leicester/Merino-cross sold at $210 while Kapunda, Deniliquin sold two August 16-drop yards at $226 and $218 a head.
