So basically "don't learn C++ unless you're trying to do cool shit with it".

Yeah, I always have regret for not starting with much easier like python. But now, after completing my bachelor in cse, I think c++ was really need to learn, when you know how to write in c++, then almost every language become easy to you, even you can easily shift to Java.

Eh, I still think learning a low level language first is important. Although I’d personally recommend C over C++. It’s best for learning the principles behind CS

TOO LATE! My college forces you to learn C++ as an intro course, Object-oriented, and data structures.

I think learning c++ is definitely worth it, c++ has huge applications also if you learned it, learning most of the other languages would be a piece of cake.

Even the basics of C++ are pretty useful! For example, my introductory programming courses were mainly in Java, and I was learning a bunch of stuffs and I thought I got the concepts.

But, after learning C++ and coming back to the all theory lessons in Java, I felt like I didn't know many things back then. The concepts which made me realize that was pointers/ references, and other low level functionalities that are only available in C/C++, and probably assembly.

But I agree, its extremely difficult to learn C++ as one's first language. Probably learn something like Java that are pretty similar to C++ up to OOP, go to C++ and move to other languages like JS or Python. Understanding low level functionalities C++ provide will help you tremendously.

It develops a good base if you are learning it the age of 15 when you really are not doing any kinda job and help you build logic and help you in your future if you go for a degree in CS, If you are trying to just get a job then you can just skip c++

Just my two cents. Learning c++ is not that hard, but writing it takes a bit more effort. It'll take some time before you start building meaningful projects with it but you'll get there eventually.
