I love how politicians on both sides try to relate to normal people. “I grew up in a middle class household.” I’ve heard that line or something similar to it from both parties for years now

Why are Americans so uncomfortable with the term "working class" when it's exactly what he described?

His childhood doesn't sound like a middle class if he's shearing bedroom's with so many.

Listening to people stories I just realize how blessed I was growing up living in a big house. Dad owned a few properties and quite a handful shares of stock. Great career. Mom never needed to work. But somehow I never felt rich if that’s what we call it. I always thought we were middle class. I still feel like we were just ok.

I grew up in a lower working class household. Dad wasted money on alcohol. I ate a lot of Wild game growing up because that was more accessible and cheaper. I trapped muskrats on the Mississippi and sold them when I was a senior in high school. In all my childhood I think we went on a one weekend of vacation. Money was scarce and not wasted. Except for my dad's alcohol use it was a happy childhood. 😂

Dave is a G. “I grew up in middle class….” Such a BS line that’s overused. Who cares.

They were the typical American family. They had a starter house. Then moved up to the next house as kids started hitting puberty. Hopefully they have a compound in FL where they each have a house.
Although I like how he said "slightly larger" when it was more than twice the size.

Had no idea growing up that we were upper middle class. Our home was huge 4000+ sqft but every part of it was built by family. Nearly all our clothes were from discount stores or garage sales(im pretty sure my dad, stock broker, only had suits from garage sales).

It was kind of the case we were well off primarily because my parents bought everything at a discount. I miss the awesomeness of Cali garage sales.

Why’s everyone getting mad at Ben for saying what his childhood was like. He was SPECIFICALLY asked about it and began explaining it.

I had a very similar story. Very cool to learn this as I was picturing his parents very differently!

I think Ben didn’t want to admit he was a little lower class in the early years. Shouldn’t be a big deal, looks like his family made it out and obviously he did himself as well

2400sq ft. Wow. I’m from the uk and the average house here is 800sq ft. That will have three bedroom squashed into it. Smallest bedroom (which I had growing up) was 8ft by 6ft. All 3 bed homes here typically have 2 double bedrooms (15 x 15) and a tiny 8x6ft ‘box room’ but our homes cost $500, 000! (£350, 000 pounds to £600, 000 pounds) I understand in California or places similar are very costly. But all our houses are tiny no matter where we live in the country.

My childhood home was 1300 sq ft, three bedroom, two bath. Plenty of room for a close knit family. My current home is twice the size, same number of bed/bathrooms, for me and a young adult son. My closet is as big as my childhood bedroom. Houses are almost too big now.

I grew up in a working class household with a working mother in the 1950s, so our income level was above the norm for that class...

Lol I couldn't even take a guess at the square footage of the homes I lived in as a kid. His brain is so funny to me 😂

Grew up middle class. Lived in 1800 square-foot house. Parents paid between 15 and $20, 000 in 1960 just looked on Zillow. The home is now valued at almost $1 million. I sure wish we would’ve held onto that house over the years.

2 bedroom house in Burbank is like 900k now lol.

A four-bedroom house in Burbank, California is so egregiously far-up from Working Class or Middle Class, it's laughable.
