“I think that’s where Trump is really going to struggle because he chose a mini-me even though he once called him America’s Hitler.”

Choosing JD Vance as vice president will weaken Trump, says Republican strategist Amy Tarkanian.

I doubt Trump was thinking strategy as much as ego when he chose Vance.

Vance was vetted by Eric and Don Jr. That says it all.

Sen. Kelly also brings a deep science background. We need leaders that can stay ahead of climate change, AI, new automated weapon technologies, etc. He's also been to space. That's a pretty cool resume.

Love it when ppl raised by middle class grandparents pretend that they really struggled. Then went to the military, which is an option that's not available to everyone for reasons that could be as simple as mild eczema or vision problems in just one eye or so many other things. Went to law school to meet a chick that's def not from Appalachia. He needs to drop the fake persona more than anything

J D Vance - what a troubled unhappy person, nasty and vindictive, just like his new boss.

It’s like they put out a casting call for the two most repellent people imaginable. Vance should mind his own business and quit peeking into other people’s windows.

I like all of the potential VP’s though I think Pete Buttigieg would make a better press secretary.
My guess is it will be Josh Shapiro, an energetic 40 something popular governor who campaigns well and can bring in the swing state I live in- Pennsylvania.

If a man will completely lie about his background to create a persona, you know you shouldn't listen to anything he says. JD was not poor. He did not grow up in backwoods Appalachia. He had a middle class upbringing and he went to a good school and he met a woman who is also most definitely not from Appalachia that way. Nothing about his history checks out. He's just a privileged dude that had a decent upbringing and made good with it. Good for you.

Wasn't Vance chosen because the tech bros wanted him and was willing to pay big money for it?

The selection of a running mate was the most important decision Trump had to make, and he completely muffed it. This throws doubt on Trump's ability to make sound judgments.

All Vance and his ilk seem to have insults and scorn.

For some reason this wasn’t mentioned, but now that Biden has dropped out, Trump is the oldest presidential candidate in history. He is 78. There are clear signs of cognitive decline. His diet is shocking. He is obese. Thus his VP candidate is extra important.

The first rule of VP choice is do no harm. Vance is the opposite of that. He’s basically the smartest right wing edgelord in the dorm room.

The question around 11 minutes in is an interesting one. There's no constitutional provision that would prevent someone previously having served as president from becoming vice president. Although such a scenario would seem to violate the spirit of the Twenty-second Amendment, if the person had previously served two terms as president, the language in that amendment doesn't address the issue of deliberately manipulating the process to hold the office via the election and resignation of intermediaries. It's only concerned about being elected president. That's likely not an issue that will come up, but In the era of Trump I suppose it's not safe to discount the possibility.

Vance has insulted adopting parents, parents raising children from previous marriages, people who are unable to have children, and their friends and families. This is the world view coming from America's religious Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between neo-puritan Evangelicals and Opus Dei ultra-conservative Catholics. Calling these people weird is a serious understatement.
